3. Description of the design of the raglan hoodie sweatshirt style

This oversized hooded sweatshirt can be sewn with or without a cuff or elastic waistband. To be able to choose on the patterns, the place of the cuff belt is shown with hatching.

Option for processing a pocket when sewing according to a pattern hoodie raglan sweatshirt with a zipperOn the shelf there is a relief line, and a pocket enters the seam of the relief. This modeling allows you to simplify the processing of the pocket as much as possible, since on a jacket with a cuff on the bottom, three sides of the pocket go into the seams, and on a jacket without a cuff, only one side is sewn.

The set of patterns for a raglan sweatshirt with a hood includes two hoods, which are conditionally called large and small.

The large hood has a drawstring along the line of the face frame or a lapel, suitable for both a light hoodie jacket and a jacket in which the hood is trimmed with fur (internal detail).

The small hood can be processed without a drawstring and its cut is more suitable for a double hood.

It's importantPlease note that on the patterns of the back, shelves and raglan sleeves, the lines of the second neckline for the hood are marked.

The enlarged neck for the hood allows you to sew a hoodie without a zipper and put it on over your head.

4. From what to sew a raglan sweatshirt with a hood with a zipper and how much fabric is consumed

Footer of various thicknesses and dense lace fabric are ideal.

With a width of 180 cm, the consumption will be from 130 to 170 cm.

If you sew from dense knitwear with a width of 150 cm, then the consumption will be up to 150 - 180 cm.

In any case, it is advisable to clarify the consumption by performing the layout after clarifying the length of the product and the variation in style.

Consumption of cuff fabric 25 - 40 cm.

5. How to cut a raglan sweatshirt

Let's start by choosing a style variation: with or without a cuff on the bottom; wide or narrow sleeve; will there be a hood, if so, which one; with a zipper or a jacket you will wear over your head, etc.

Then, select the pocket processing option (picture 2). With this choice, everything is simple - an option with a hem allowance at the entrance to the pocket (picture 2 top left) is suitable for thick and loose fabrics, while the double pocket (picture 2 middle top) - only for thin fabrics.

The “lining” (wrong side hood) of the “large” hood may not be completely double - the back of the head is not necessary to make double and the seam side should be cut along the front of the pattern - the cutting line of the pattern is marked (picture 2 at the bottom).

Allowances for the middle part of the shelf should run along the bottom of 7 cm (in any case) and along the middle line of 1 - 2 cm (if the jacket has a zipped hoodie to the bottom) - picture 2 on right.

Let's consider where 7 cm on the bottom came from.

The width of the cuff on the bottom is 6 cm in finished form, the seam allowance for the cuff on the bottom is 1 cm on each side of the cuff blank. To make the cut of the allowance on the bottom of the middle part of the shelf equal to the cut of the cuff, add 7 cm. If you have little experience, you can copy the bottom fragment of the shelf.

Of course, if the middle part of the shelf is double, then the bottom allowances are not needed.

When you have chosen the desired variation of the style, we specify the length of the sleeve and the length of the product. And after that, you can start cutting.

Option for cutting small sizes on a cooler or footer with a width of 180 cmApproximate layout options are shown in the figures. 3 и 4. Let's consider in more detail.

On the 3 drawing the option of cutting small sizes on a cooler or footer with a width of 180 cm is shown. The fabric is folded in half, the edges are aligned.

The jacket will be cuffed, so the cuff area on the pattern can be cut off or folded over. In the drawing, these areas are marked with hatching.

Seam allowances are not required. Exceptions can be three allowances - an allowance at the entrance to the pocket (if the pocket is not double), 1 cm under the zipper along the half-slip (if the jacket is with a zipper) and 7 cm along the bottom of the shelf (if the shelf is not double).

The double mid front option does not require a hem allowance, but is only suitable for thin fabrics.

It's importantPlease note that for the model with hoods, a neckline under the hood is used.

The occipital part of the hood in this case is one.

Pattern layout on fabric for large sizes with a fabric width of 180 cmLayout on 4 drawing suitable for both large sizes with a fabric width of 180 cm, and small sizes with a fabric width of 150 cm.

The fabric, as in the previous example, is folded in half, the edges are aligned. Seam allowances are not required, exceptions are described above.

The hood is double, which means that the sides are 4 pieces, and the middle ones are 2 pieces.

The pockets are also double - we lay the cut of the entrance on the fold of the fabric. Of course, this pocket cut is only suitable for thin knitwear.

The middle part of the shelf can also be double for a thin jacket with a zipper, but this, as can be seen from fig. 4 will increase fabric consumption.

The sleeve is under the cuffs, although a narrow one is also suitable.

It's importantIn any case, after cutting, notches should be made, which are indicated on the patterns.

Cuffs - strips of cuff fabric. It is better to cut them in the sewing process, especially if experience is not enough.

When cutting, it is important to calculate the width of the cuff in the cutting:

2 widths finished + 2 cm for seams.

The width of the cuff on the bottom in this model is fixed - in finished form 6 cm, that is, in cutting

6 + 6 + 2 = 14 cm

The width of the cuff for the sleeve can be any according to your desire.

The length of the blank for the cuff along the bottom is calculated according to the length of the stitching cut. The cuff should be shorter by 1/4 or 1/3 of the length of the stitching cut.

The length can also be determined in place by attaching cuffs to the figure.

The length of the cuff for the sleeve is determined by the wrist, so that there is no excessive freedom or excessive tension.

6. How to sew a raglan sweatshirt with a hood and pockets

We sew on an overlock with a knitted seam

The sewing sequence is as follows:

  1. Process the pocket - iron the allowance at the entrance, glue the doubler for stretch on the allowance and overcast. Iron again. If the pocket is double, as in fig. 4, just iron along the pocket entry line.
  2. Prick or baste a pocket on the side of the shelf along the notches. Stitch the side seams with an overlocker. Iron.
  3. Sweep the sections of the zipper attachment and the bottom of the middle part of the shelf, if the shelf is not double, iron and sew the zipper, aligning the bottom tack of the zipper with the line of the bottom of the shelf. In other words, the zipper goes BEFORE the hem allowance.
  4. Prepare the cuffs and stitch it on the overlock along the bottom of the back and barrel, distributing it evenly. To avoid distortions, the cuffs and bottom are chipped off with pins before stitching.
  5. Stitch the relief of the shelf on the overlocker, iron it. When grinding the relief, the allowance on the bottom should “go around” the cuffs and clearly match the bottom.
  6. Stitch the seam of the sleeve on the overlocker, iron.
  7. If cuffs are provided, prepare cuffs - iron along, stitch into a ring, iron the stitching seam.
  8. Sew the cuffs to the sleeve, distributing the fit evenly, stretching the cuffs. Sew on overlock.
  9. Stitch the sleeve with a knitted seam on an overlocker.
  10. Collect the hood on the overlocker. The double hood can be assembled on a typewriter in a narrow zigzag. Every seam needs ironing.
  11. Sew on the hood.
  12. Finally, some of the seams can be "covered" with a knitted (stretch) oblique trim. The trim can be machine stitched or sewn on by hand.
