How to cut a hoodie with your own hands

Let's start with cutting hoodies, that is, jackets with a hood (drawings 2 и 3).

Small details, so that the layout is complete, we cut out from dublerin without seam allowances. If necessary, we use dubbing for stretch fabrics. We will use these details from dubbing in the general layout, like patterns.

The hood can be double or with a turned edge (figure 2a), but in any case, we cut according to the pattern of the hood. The minimum width of the facing for the hood is 6 - 8 cm.

Neck trim (figure 2b) cut out if we need to make a small cut instead of a fastener or cut out the pick (picture 4 in a bubble) according to the pattern of the shelf. The width of the facing and selection is within 5 - 7 cm.

Turning the pocket - also according to the pattern (figure 2 c, d). It can consist of two parts or be done in a turn for one large pocket in a jacket without a fastener. In any case, the optimal width of this part is 4 - 5 cm.

We lay out the patterns of large parts (shelves, backs, sleeves, hood) in the most economical way (Fig. 3 or 4, depending on the style variant) and together with them we place the facings cut from the dubbing.

Seam allowances vary depending on style and processing. For example, bending a straight bottom line requires an allowance of 2,5 - 3 cm, and for a bottom with cuts along the side seams and rounded corners, 1 cm is enough. The rest of the seams also have allowances of 1 cm, but the neck and sprout are cut out beyond the stroke line of the pattern.

The layout fabric can be folded into two folds (picture 3) if there is no fastener in the middle of the shelf. Or with one fold (picture 4) if there is a zipper.

In addition to a short slit and a detachable zipper, there is a variant of a fastener in the raglan seam, passing to the collar (picture 5). In this case, also the semi-skid (center line of the shelf) and the middle line of the back should be in the layout on the folds.

How to cut a sweatshirt with your own hands

Cutting a sweatshirt is almost the same as cutting a bomber or hoodie. Cuffs and a strip for processing the neck have a rectangular shape and the dimensions should be commensurate with the size of the product. In other words, they must be shorter than the slices processed with them.

If you are going to cut on a figure with a protruding belly and / or a large lumbar deflection (picture 6), then the patterns before cutting can be corrected: draw the middle seam and cut off the back pattern, and add it according to the relief. The sequence is like this:

1. Mark the waist line by measuring 20 cm from the bottom line of the patterns.
2. Calculate the desired volume of the product in the abdomen using the formula St + Fri, where Fri = 8 cm.
3. Compare with the volume according to the patterns and distribute the missing difference into a relief line, as in picture 7. Note that the maximum expansion is given at the waistline and down from the waist the expansion width is maintained. Extend the shelf by 2 - 5 cm.
4. The need to complete the middle seam for a stooped figure will complicate the task a little: we retreat at the waist level for a deflection of 2–4 cm, draw a vertical line down from the obtained point, upward an inclined line to the level of the armhole (more about the middle seam read on the website of Vera Olkhovskaya). In addition, for a stooped figure, you need to lengthen the back by 2-5 cm.

For cutting rounding, you can make a pattern: cut a square out of thin cardboard with a side of 8 - 10 cm, then draw an arc with a radius equal to the side of this square, cut off the excess.

How to sew a hoodie, sweatshirt or bomber with your own hands

Whichever version of the style you start sewing, in any case, you will have to start with pockets.

In addition to a pocket with a facing, the straight sides of which are folded over and adjusted to the product, you can make leaf pockets or a large patch pocket "kangaroo".

Relief pocket. The processing of this pocket begins with the cutting of two congruent pieces of burlap along the piece of the middle part of the shelf. Please note: the undercut of the burlap is necessarily made according to the detail of the cut, already cut out of the fabric with the necessary allowances (picture 7).

As seen on 7 drawing, the burlap has the shape of a rectangle, the width of which is equal to the width of the part, the length is 22 - 25 cm. Any lining fabric of the same color as the jacket, coarse calico or a special pocket is suitable for burlap. But, if the jacket is not lined, then it is better if one of the burlap parts is cut from the same fabric as the jacket.

The cut-out parts of the burlap need to be pricked onto the part of the shelf and folded in half all three parts along the half-skid line, aligning the vertical cuts. On vertical cuts, make notches, as shown in 7 drawing left. The length of the notches on the shelf should not exceed 0,5 cm, while the length of the notches on the burlap should be exactly equal to the width of the seam, that is, 1 cm.

According to the notches made on the part of the middle part of the shelf, the same notches are made on the part of the barrel with a length of 0,5 cm.

It is impossible to process this pocket without notches.

After the notches are made, the burlap should be stitched, retreating from the outer edge of 1 cm and skipping the segments of the entrance to the pocket (picture 7 on right). Start and end stitching lines should be strictly at the end of the notches that limit the entrance to the pocket. Stitched sections of burlap should be overcast or edged.

The remaining unprocessed sections of the pocket entrance are sewn to the details of the shelf very precisely along the notches: one burlap - to the middle part of the shelf, the other (the one cut from the main fabric) - to the side parts. After stitching, the sections of the relief are overcast and the relief is ground, of course, the entrance to the pocket is skipped.

Experienced tailors can make zipped pockets.

Further processing is very simple and similar to sewing all such products.

If there is a fastener, then the zipper and collar are sewn or the fastener is cut.

Some difficulty for beginners may be sewing a variation of the style with a zipper in raglan, passing to the collar. Let's consider the processing of this node in more detail.

The left raglan is processed only to the beginning of the fastener. Collars (upper and lower) are ground off, and the cut of the top collar is sewn over. The lower collar is sewn into the neck, of course, in this case, the middle line of the collar and the middle point of the sprout should not be combined. Then the "lightning" is sewn and the ends of the collar are connected.
