Sewing this dress will require not only special precision when processing the pocket, but also strong elastic stitches.

If the non-stop sleeve greatly facilitates sewing and is not difficult even for beginners, then the pocket requires detailed explanations and precision cutting and sewing.

Pattern "cool trapeze dress" 40-62 pic3Consider ready-made patterns (picture 1):

  1. The shelf consists of two parts: a shelf and a barrel. Both pieces have recessed pockets.
  2. You can cut them right away, but you can only mark the position of the pocket and cut it out after processing the relief. In this case, you can mark the pocket entrance according to the “pocket entry line” pattern.
  3. In any case, when cutting out the entrance to the pocket, add a seam allowance for processing and notches that will allow this processing to be completed.
  4. Also pay attention to the two options for the bottom line for the shelf. Option 1 - for the bottom, as in the photo of the dress, option 2 - for the corner under the pocket.
  5. In addition, on the relief seam of the shelf, a notch marks the approximate place of attaching the shelf to the “burlap pocket” part, so that the result is as close as possible to that shown in the photo.
  6. Of course, you can experiment with the size of the fold.
  7. Having decided whether you will immediately cut out the entrance to the pocket and which version of the bottom of the shelf you are interested in, you can proceed to cutting.

Briefly about the equity threads and allowances for seams in a dress

The lobar sleeve should be located along the part - fold the pattern in half lengthwise, aligning the front and back seams and the lobar sleeve will be along the fold, that is, along the midline.

The share barrel of the shelf in this case is arbitrary, but it is desirable that it does not coincide with either the side or the relief cut. Both of these cuts should be "oblique".

The burlap can be cut arbitrarily, and it is better to place the valance burlap so that the middle line (it is marked on the drawing) coincides with the shared line.

The direction of the share for the remaining parts is indicated in the drawing.

Seam allowances are usually not made when sewing stretch, but for this model, an exception must be made for the seam of the relief, the entrance to the pocket and the details of the burlap. Add 1 cm to these sections.

The bottom allowance depends on the processing. “In a hem with an open cut” (single hem) - 2 - 2,5 cm, for piping or overcasting with a rolled or overcast seam - no allowance is needed.

On the 2 drawing an example layout for small sizes is shown.

And on 3 drawing - how to cut a dress for full plus sizes.

How to sew a do-it-yourself trapeze dress step by step

  1. Duplicate the pocket area with doubler for stretch. It is advisable to cut the edge of dubbing with serrated scissors.
  2. We grind the part of the barrel to the shelf, do not forget that this can only be done by making a notch in the corner. It is more convenient to sew with a narrow zigzag, which, when sewing a stretch, replaces the usual straight line.
  3. After stitching, we overcast the seam and carefully iron it.
  4. If the entrance to the pocket has not yet been cut out, we cut it out, adding a processing allowance and making notches.
  5. Pattern "cool trapeze dress" 40-62 photoTo increase accuracy, the entry line can be marked with a disappearing marker. When marking out, do not forget to put control points along the middle lines of the pocket details.
  6. On the details of the "burlap" we grind or just sweep the warehouses.
  7. We sew the “burlap-valance” to the part of the entrance to the pocket, marked on the pattern as “top”. Accordingly, "burlap" - to the part that is marked as "bottom".
  8. Then we grind the “burlap-valance” and “burlap”, overcast and iron the pocket.

How to sew an a-line dress with a pleat

  1. On the patterns of the shelf there is a mark for the fold. Lay the shelf on the table inside out and align the marked point with the approximate center of the "burlap-valance" part. Chip these two points or lay a mark in this place.
  2. Pin the shelf on the mannequin and make the necessary corrections. After that, the warehouse can be fixed manually or by machine.
  3. Further processing of the dress does not differ from sewing a regular stretch dress-a-line and is made on an overlock with a knitted seam. The usual overcasting seam is not suitable.
  4. We sew the middle seam of the back and shoulder seams using the edge. We iron them right away. We stitch the sleeves and, having ironed the stitching seam, grind the side seams.
  5. A clasp is not required for this style.
  6. We process the neck with turning, using the same dubbing for stretch and a narrow zigzag. This treatment will make the neck elastic enough so that the thread does not break during wear.
  7. We overcast the bottom with an overcasting or the same knitted seam.
  8. If a hem was provided, then the bottom is ironed and swept. For stitching, as you know, preliminary overcasting is not required.
  9. It is also not required for hemming with a double needle - a double needle perfectly imitates unstitching. The only subtlety is that you need to buy a "double stretch needle".
  10. To process the bottom into a hem, you can also use elastic decorative stitches, which are equipped with every modern sewing machine.
