Cutting stretch products is always simplified due to the lack of seam allowances - they are simply not needed if you follow the simple rules of the stretch sewing technique and use "stretch" seams.

Before proceeding to cutting the dress, consider how to cut out the lower collar and lower hood (picture 2). We will cut them according to the same patterns and without seam allowances. If there is a doubler for stretch, then you can cut out the dubbing details.

For cutting, the fabric is folded in half across, the edges are aligned and arranged parallel to the edge of the cutting table (figures 3, 4 и 5).

If the width of the fabric is 140 cm, then the layout will look something like in the pictures 3 и 4. Please note that to save fabric, a sleeve can be cut out along an oblique thread (Fig. 3) if the fabric is matte and its extensibility is low. For shiny fabrics of medium stretch, it is better to cut the sleeve along the lobar.

How to determine the lobar thread of the sleeve?

Fold the sleeve pattern lengthwise, aligning the front and back sections, the fold line will be a shared thread.

The share direction of the shelf in this case is not important, the main thing is that the cuts of the bottom line do not fall on the share thread. The lobar back can be omitted, but if necessary, let it pass along the midline of the back. In other words, lay the top and bottom points of the middle seam towards the edge.

The middle sections of the lower collar should also not fall on the lobar or transverse thread. Better oblique (picture 4)

Opening this dress from a wider footer (180 cm) looks almost the same (picture 5).

How to sew an original trapeze dress with your own hands

1. Sewing an “original” trapeze dress will not be difficult even for a novice couturier.
2. We start with the middle seams of the front and back - we grind with a knitted seam on the overlock, we grind the darts on the hood (top and bottom) in a narrow zigzag. We carefully iron everything that has been stitched, ironing the seam allowances to the side, and the tucks to the middle seam.
3. We grind the middle seams of the hood or collar on an overlocker or on a typewriter with a narrow zigzag. We iron the overlock seam - on the top in one direction, on the bottom in the other direction. If it was a narrow zigzag, iron the allowances. Ironing the hood is best done on a tailor's pillow.
4. Then, we sew (without stitching!) the sleeve.

6. After sewing in the sleeve, the seam should be ironed towards the sleeve.
7. The side seams are also sewn on an overlock and ironed towards the back.
8. We sew a collar or hood into the sprout (neck of the back). Stitching the collar is easier on a typewriter with a narrow zigzag. If you want, then you can overcast, but it is better to just iron.
9. Lower hood or collar - grind the remaining cut around the face or neck. It's better to do it on a machine. You can also sew a securing stitch by selecting from the decorative stitches on your sewing machine.

11. Finally, you should process the bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeves.
12. The easiest option is to overcast with a tight knitted seam, reducing the stitch length. You can work the hem into an open hem (fold over once) and sew the decorative stitch that you have already used along the edge of the hood or collar. And professional processing - with a stitching (flat) seam.
