Style, fabric and its consumption for sewing a cut-off dress
Consumption 170 - 185 cm with a width of 140 cm. The length of the skirt (Du) is 55 cm.
This style of dress is suitable for slender figures of any height, as the length of the bodice is adjustable during fitting. Especially it can be recommended to owners of a large lumbar deflection, on which dresses that are not cut off at the waist do not sit well.
Not too thin fabrics of the dress assortment are suitable for sewing. These include silk and dense stretch with little stretch.

How to cut a detachable dress with your own hands with and without a pocket
First you need to decide whether to make pockets.
See
video for beginners on sewing pockets
After that, you can start cutting.
If you chose a dress without pockets, see the layout in Figure 2, if with pockets, then in Figure 3.
In any case, the fabric is folded in half along the width of the layout. In other words, the layout is slightly narrower than the width of the fabric folded in half. We focus on the total width of the PP and RF of the skirt, taking into account seam allowances.
The fabric folding scheme is shown in the bubble in fig. 2-3.
Please note that the patterns need to be laid out in the desired fractional direction and with the necessary allowances for the seams..
✂ Seam allowances when cutting a cut-off dress
The sprout, neckline, armhole, sleeve hem, waist cut of the skirt and pocket details - do not have allowances. We add 3 cm along the bottom of the bodice and the bottom of the product. The rest - 1 cm each.
The direction of the share thread is indicated in the drawings. In the details of the front of the bodice and the PP of the skirt, it coincides with the half-slip (middle line) and with the fold of these details. In the back of the bodice and the RF of the skirt - the share is perpendicular to the bottom and coincides with the midline. For a sleeve, share - share along the part. Cuffs - can be cut, both along and across.
✂ Cuffs and how to cut the neckline in a dress
The cuff sizes are as follows:
Cuff pattern width = double cuff width in finished form + 2 cm;
Cuff pattern length = forearm girth + 2 cm.
The neckline is cut out in any direction along the patterns of the front and back (Fig. 4) or along the product. First, we cut out the facing from the dublerin without seam allowances, glue it on the remnants of the fabric, and then add 1 cm allowances to grind its fragments.
Step-by-step instructions on how to sew this dress with your own hands for beginners
The sewing sequence of a cut-off dress with a “lantern” sleeve and “cut-off barrel” pockets does not differ from the sequence of processing other cut-off dresses:
- You should start with the "assembly" of the bodice for fitting. In this case, the warehouses should be swept up and the “lightning” should be swept to the middle seam.
- On the skirt, you need to process the pockets, sweep out the warehouses, process the darts with sweep the side and middle seams.
- The sleeve is processed completely. After that, you can do the sample.
- On the fitting, in addition to clarifying the degree of fit, the outline of the armholes and the neckline, it is necessary to note the line connecting the bodice with the skirt, for which the bodice is tied with a thin belt or linen elastic at the waist.
- See how to cut the armhole on the fitting
- Please note that the line connecting the bodice and skirt does not have to be parallel to the bottom cut.
- After that, without letting go of the customer, you can sweep up the sleeves and sweep up the bodice with the skirt.
- You just have to process the neck with a piping, sew a zipper and process the bottom.
