How to cut a summer jumpsuit according to a pattern with your own hands

For cutting, the fabric is folded in half, the edges are aligned. Patterns are laid out taking into account the shared direction and seam allowances in the most economical way (Fig. 2).

The share thread is marked on the patterns of the PP and ZP shorts, as well as on the sleeve. The share of the back coincides with the middle seam, and the shelves - with the edge of the side.

As for seam allowances, for stretch that is being ground down knitted stitch, they are not needed. But for a staple or silk overalls - they are necessary.

So, for stable fabrics along the side and shoulder seams, the seam of the front roll of the sleeve, the middle seam of the back - add 1 - 1,5 cm.

On the bottom of the sleeve and the bottom of the shorts - allowances are added depending on the processing method. If you are edging these sections or stitching lace, as shown in the photo, then allowances are not needed. If you are going to process the bottom of these parts into a hem with an open cut (single hem), the allowance will be 1 cm.

According to the waist cut of the bodice, an allowance is desirable for accurately determining the cut of the waist on the fitting of 3,5 - 4 cm. This is if you are sewing a jumpsuit from stretch.

If you use staple or silk, then the same allowance (up to 4 cm) is useful for a lap that will allow you to sit comfortably in overalls.

In addition, in silk and staple shorts, you can make an allowance-stock along the middle seam of the seat from 1 to 3 cm.

Pattern of the bodice shelf and the front half of the shorts in summer overallsAnother important detail is the one-piece collar. In fact, this is a fragment that is one with the shelf.

To facilitate its cutting, a strip 3–4 cm wide should be cut out of the dublerin and a shelf should be cut out by attaching this strip to it, as shown in fig. 2.

Immediately after cutting, do not forget to mark the patterns marked with crosses in fig. 2. This is the point of convergence of the shelves and the overlapping point of the RFP on the PP.

Done with the cut.

How to sew a summer jumpsuit with your own hands step by step

As with other cut-off products, the bodice, shorts and sleeves should be collected separately. Try on and connect.

Now a little more.

Do-it-yourself layout for a summer overalls patternThe assembly of the bodice is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Duplicate selection.
  2. Overcast the edge of the selection.
  3. Iron the bead by bending along the line of the edge of the bead.
  4. Sew, overcast and iron the middle section of the back, and if a zipper is provided in the middle seam, stitch and sweep partially.
  5. Shoulder seams - stitch iron or iron.
  6. Side seams - stitch iron or iron.
  7. Perform adjustable assembly at the waist - for stretch strictly along the waistline, for stable fabrics - along the bottom of the allowance at a distance of 0,7 - 1 cm from the lower cut of the bodice.

Shorts assembly:

  1. We start by processing the bottom of the PP and RFP - overcast, bend by 1 cm, lay a line and iron or edging, or stitch the lace in a zigzag.
  2. Apply the RFP on the PP, aligning the cuts of the RP with the overlapping points marked on the PP pattern, sew along the waist.
  3. Stitch, iron or iron the crotch seams.
  4. Sew, overcast and iron the bow seam, and sweep the seam of the seat, leaving 10-12 cm unswept so that shorts can be worn at the fitting.
  5. Adjustable gather around the waist.

The assembly of the sleeve is stitching and ironing or ironing the seam of the front roll, it is better to process the bottom later, specifying the length of the sleeve on the fitting after stitching.

Trying on and final assembly of overalls with shorts

  1. Trying on is a very important operation, which is needed not so much to fit the product, but to clarify the length of the bodice and the position of the point of convergence of the shelves.
  2. After that, without releasing the customer, the sleeve should be swept in, placing its only seam over the thumb.
  3. When the fitting is over, the sprout (neck of the back) is edged or processed with a facing, the bodice and shorts are connected.
  4. When connecting the bodice with shorts, it is important to combine only the middle seam of the back and the middle seam of the seat, the coincidence of the side seam of the bodice and the PP of the shorts is not necessary, since the side cut of the PP is covered.
  5. If the jumpsuit is sewn from stretch with a knitted seam, then after connecting the bodice with shorts, the assembly can be removed (or the assembly line can be cut in several places so that it does not tighten when put on), and the seam is sewn with a rubber thread along the allowance or along the bodice. Rubber thread for this is wound on a bobbin.
  6. As for bias binding, for stretch, you can use a rubber “bias binding” and a binder.
