How to cut such women's shorts with your own hands
Cutting and sewing shorts is almost the same as cutting and sewing trousers.
The fabric is folded in half, the PP and ZP patterns are stacked “jack”, while it is important that the PP ironing line on the pattern is strictly parallel to the fold of the fabric and the edges (picture 2).
Seam allowances are the same as when cutting trousers.
We add 1 cm along the side and step cuts, as well as along the cut of the bow, from 0,7 - 3 cm along the seat (the allowance increases upwards and at the top it is already both an allowance and a margin), and we cut out the waist for the stroke line of the patterns.
The allowance on the bottom of the shorts should be widened so that when processing the bottom it does not tighten. Notches must be made along the side and step cuts at the bottom level. This will help iron those seams well.
We cut out the belt rectangular according to the waist measurement plus 10 - 15 cm for processing.
A small, almost lyrical digression, why such a large margin is needed to process the belt.
Firstly, for the transition part on the fastener. Secondly, I strongly recommend that you make a belt in two halves, as is done for men's trousers, so that after you can easily adjust the size of the product at the waist. This is especially important for girls prone to weight fluctuations.
For cutting shorts with cuffs (picture 4), increase the bottom processing allowance to 8 - 9 cm. The cuffs are calculated as follows:
Two widths of the finished cuff + hem allowance, i.e.
Double three + 2 or 3 cm.
Having cut out shorts with a cuff, mark it, sweep it up and iron it, and then base it (cut off the excess) so that the allowance is accurate.
If the shorts do not fit the width of the fabric, an economical solution is a sewn wedge to the RFP (picture 4).
In order to cut such a wedge accurately, draw a line on the WP pattern along which the wedge will connect to the WP. This line should be drawn in such a way that, during the subsequent layout of the pattern, it is at a distance of 1 cm from other sections. Place paper under the RFP, circle the wedge. Do not forget to take into account the seam allowances along the wedge attaching line, both for the wedge itself and for the RFP.
How to sew women's shorts with your own hands step by step
- Tailoring of shorts Beginsfrom the processing of tucks and / or warehouse. If you need warehouses on the PCB, mark them along the lines of the tucks, as shown in figure 3.
- Then you should overcast the PP and RFP. Only the waist and hem remain unswept.
- If you have a model with pockets, see the article how to process pockets like "cutting barrels".
- When sewing the side and instep seams, leave the hidden zipper area on the left side seam unstitched.
- When the seams are processed and the clasp is ready, stitch and iron the seams of the bow and seat. But the seam of the seat is not completely stitched, but only in the area between the legs.
- Then work on a two-piece belt. On the side of the unfinished seam of the seat, leave the raw ends of the belt.
- How to process the belt
- More belt options here
- And now the fun part: sweep the rest of the seam of the seat and the ends of the belt and try it on.
- And after trying on, you will only have to stitch the rest of the seam of the seat and trim the bottom of the shorts.
