Description of the design of a godet skirt pattern with one wedge
The cut of the PP (front half) of this skirt is asymmetrical. One wedge was added along the relief line.
The wedge shape is rectangular, so the seam can be sewn not only along the “relief-wedge” curve, but also to the very bottom of the skirt. In any case, it will look interesting.
Trapeze silhouette.
Added cut-off side pockets. Of course, you can sew a skirt without them.
What to make a godet skirt from for summer and winter, what is the fabric consumption
You should not limit yourself to choosing only suiting fabrics, which are most often offered for purchase for a skirt.
For this style, you can use both loden and knitwear of varying stretch.
Loden, “boiled wool” (dress wool or suitable for a jacket), tartan, warm knitwear are good solutions for winter or autumn.
One single wedge in this style allows us to choose fabrics that are heavy for a normal year.
What fabric is suitable for summer?
If you want to make this skirt in a boho style, then linen or light denim will work great. Do not neglect muslin, silk, and light knitwear.
Consumption for a width of 150 cm will be from 100 cm or 150 cm.

How to cut a one wedge skirt with pockets using simple ready-made patterns
Before opening, we check the length of the pattern and, if necessary, adjust it.
Seam allowances are 1 cm. Except for the waist, we do not add allowances at the waist. And at the bottom 2,5–3 cm.
If you are cutting a skirt from stretch with medium or high stretch and plan to sew the skirt on an overlocker, then seam allowances will not be required, except for the hem allowance.
It is also worth paying attention to the fact that if you want to sew a product in the boho style, for example, from “boiled” dress wool, then you will not need a hem and, perhaps, the seam allowances will be different.
And, if you are prone to weight fluctuations, then it won’t hurt to add, in addition to the allowance, a margin to the middle seam of the seam, increasing it to 3,5 - 4 cm.
We cut by spreading the fabric in one layer face up. We lay the PP parts with the inscriptions facing up. With this approach, errors in cutting are eliminated.
The layout for conditionally small sizes is shown in Fig. 2. As you can see, the belt is made from fragments.
As you already know, a belt is a rectangle, a strip. We calculate the total size of the belt part.
Belt width in cutting = 2 widths in finished form + 2 cm.
Belt length in cutting = Waist circumference + 10 cm for seams and transition part.
If your belt consists of fragments, as in 2 drawing, then add 2 cm to each additional seam. In this case, we have two additional seams, which means we will add 4 cm.
Cutting large sizes has no fundamental differences (picture 3).
We only remember that if asymmetrical parts need to be unfolded, make sure that the inscriptions “look up”.
How to sew a straight godet skirt with one wedge and pockets
Let's look at the most likely sewing sequence.
- We start with processing the darts and relief of the PP. The relief seam after stitching requires stretching the seam allowance with an iron so that it can be pressed in or out. If the fabric does not stretch well, notches are made on the allowance. After making the notches, the seam will have to be edged and then ironed or unironed.
- PP pockets. We stitch the burlap facing, cut the seam allowance, adjust the cut allowance onto the burlap facing, while the “face” of the product is looking at you, iron it, perform the finishing stitch, if provided, and, placing the burlap valance, make the fastenings. All that remains is to grind the burlap.
- Sew the side seams. Iron or un-iron. Stitch or edge.
- Making and sewing a belt Please note that we sew the belt BEFORE we process the middle seam. Why is this necessary? To easily adjust the volume of the skirt and the fit on your figure, based on the structure of your back and buttocks. Of course, especially thrifty girls and ladies added, in addition to the usual allowance, a margin of 3 cm in case their waist increased.
- So, the middle seam of the ZP (back half). We sweep and baste the zipper. Basting can be done on a machine using a basting stitch. Iron the seam slightly.
- Fitting. We clarify the fit and make adjustments along the middle seam.
- We process the middle seam with the zipper and the belt fastener.
- All that remains is the bottom and finishing ironing.
