2. Options for cutting and processing operations when sewing a hoodie jacket

On this model, it’s good to learn how to sew and cut clothes on your own at home, but still, a hoodie jacket will seem difficult for beginner couturier.

Equipment is the key to success. It is enough to have any modern overlock, in the arsenal of which there is a trioctage seam, or at least a sewing machine with a zigzag adjustable in width.

Having familiarized yourself with the necessary technical conditions, you can begin to prepare the cutting.

Before cutting, it is extremely important to determine the length of the sleeve and the jacket itself, since the fabric consumption directly depends on this. It is better to measure the desired lengths on a similar finished product.

Please also note that this biker jacket can be sewn without cuffs. This version of the style will greatly simplify sewing for inexperienced home couturier.

Another important point that you should consider before cutting is what kind of selection you will have.

Let's take a look at the possible selectionspicture 2).

The simplest and most economical is the pick-up strip (figure 2a). A strip with a width of 4 - 6 cm can be cut out together with a shelf (one-piece selection) or separately from the shelf. In any case, the pick-up strip should be duplicated with a special doubler for stretch.

In what cases is it worth giving preference to a one-piece selection?

Since in the vast majority of cases the leather jacket is sewn with a zipper, when choosing a selection, you should imagine how this zipper will be sewn.

The easiest way to process is to put a zipper under a duplicated and ironed pick and secure with a stitch or two. This method, in addition to simplicity, has another advantage - if necessary, replace the zipper, you can easily do it.

If the collar is turned, then replacing the zipper will be more difficult, since the lock is first sewn to the shelf, then the side is turned with a duplicated collar.

Anticipating the question of how to stitch the other half of the zipper, I will answer. The pattern has a "lightning sewing line". The easiest option would be to impose and sew a zipper on this line. It is good if the place where the zipper is attached is duplicated with a narrow strip of knitted dublerin in the color of the fabric. And to make the zipper look good, bend the zipper braid as close to the teeth as possible and lay a line along the folded braid.

You can also consider a simple option with a patch zipper. For such processing, a zipper with a narrow braid (0,5 cm) or with a decorative braid is suitable.

A more complex and uneconomical processing option with a “real” selection, which is cut out according to the pattern of the shelf (figure 2 b, c). To cut the selection, it is enough to cut off an arbitrary part of the shelf or simply bend it. The “zip stitching line”, the shoulder and part of the armhole should completely fall into the selection area. This selection is also completely duplicated with a knitted doubler.

3. How to cut a men's leather jacket with a hood using an electronic pattern

Having decided on the shape and processing of the selection, you can proceed to cutting.

Seam allowances are not needed.

The share thread of the shelf should be parallel to the semi-skid (center line of the shelf), and the share of the selection, which is cut out along the shelf, should be parallel to the edge of the bead. With a sleeve, everything is simple - share along the midline - folded the pattern in half and share along the fold. The lobar back is also along its midline. But the hood can be cut arbitrarily - laid on the fabric in a way that is beneficial.

So, the fabric is folded in half, face inward (although some types of footer are more convenient to cut “on the face” - see how it is more convenient), the edges are aligned and arranged parallel to the edge of the cutting table. Patterns are stacked on it, taking into account the shared direction.

When cutting, do not forget to put on the details of the shelf the lines of half-sliding and attaching the zipper. Marking is best done with threads so that it does not accidentally wear off during the sewing process.

Do not forget to put notches at the intersection of the half-skid with the cuts of the shelf and at the intersection of the midline with the cuts of the back. As well as notches that limit the tuck on the hood.

4. How to sew this men's jacket step by step

You have already read about knitted seams and know that such footer jackets are almost completely sewn on overlock. You know that a regular overlock stitch is not suitable for this purpose. In other words, you should not try to sew a jacket on an old Chinese three-thread overlocker.

We start sewing with the processing of the sides and stitching the zipper in the way you have chosen. After stitching the zipper, fasten it and check the quality of the work done. If the lightning does not come in waves and the half-drifts on both shelves coincide, then you did everything right.

Then, you need to assemble the hood - grind and iron the middle seam of the "upper" and "lining" hoods. Iron the stitching seams. Stitch the hood along the cut from the side of the face.

After that, you can sew in the hood, but before sewing, overcast the open section of the "lining" hood.

First, the “upper” hood is sewn in, while it is better to replace the tucks with soft warehouses, which, if necessary, can be increased or even not done at all.
