Description of the design and style variations of the coat

The pattern of the pea coat with a hood is made on the basis of the pattern of a classic men's jacket with a barrel. Therefore, instead of the usual side seam, we have a shelf relief and a back relief.

In favor of the solution with embossed lines is the ability to very easily process the pocket in the seam of the shelf relief. On the pattern, the position of the pocket is marked with notches. In addition, an additional seam will allow you to more accurately fit the product to the figure.

The clasp is double-breasted, the edge of the side is inclined, "oblique". Added allowance for the slot on the middle seam.

Sleeve classical jacket two-sutural. The highest point of the eye is marked on the pattern with a notch. This is the most difficult sleeve for home couturiers, as it requires the skills of trying on.

The pattern of the lower half is made on the upper half for more convenient manufacturing of patterns for repeated use.

See how to make a reusable double-seam sleeve template for a classic jacket...

The silhouette of this men's coat is semi-adjacent, the model is suitable for slender men.

If the coat is sewn on a figure with a protruding belly, then the size is chosen according to the shoulders and at the level of the armhole. After that, the barrel detail is corrected - it expands towards the shelf. If you need to expand by more than 2 cm, then the expansion is also performed from the side of the shelf along the relief.

What to sew a hoodie pea coat from and how to calculate fabric consumption

There are only two options - footer and overcoat fabrics.

Of course, the footer is different from the footer, so we choose a fabric with thick felt or fur.

Footer consumption is 240-250 cm, with a standard width of 180 cm. This is while maintaining the length of the product, with a double hood and with a selection.

If you have experience, then you can also use the fabric of the "sheepskin coat". In this case, the size is chosen larger than for the footer. It is better to compare the "volumes" of the pattern with the "volumes" of a similar finished product.

The consumption of overcoat fabrics is not considered, as it implies a highly professional training of a couturier, in the specialty "tailor of men's outerwear", the level of training is not lower than the 4th category.

How to cut a men's coat with a hood according to a finished pattern with your own hands

Shared thread when cutting a man's coat with your own hands according to a patternBefore opening, we check the compliance of the length of the product and the sleeve with the height and desires of the customer. We make adjustments if necessary.

The cutting of the footer is simple, but the cutting of the men's coat has some features, the main of which is the strict observance of the share directions in the details.

For example, the lobar thread of the upper half of the sleeve should pass through two points of the front cut (picture 2). The share of the shelf traditionally coincides with the semi-skid, and the share of the selection - with its edge.

To cut the pick, the shelf pattern (or its copy) must be cut lengthwise. The cutting line can be arbitrary with a slight deflection. The approximate indent to it from the neck on the shoulder is 5 - 7 cm, along the bottom from the side - 10 - 12 cm.

Layout pattern on the footer for a do-it-yourself pattern of a men's coat with a hoodWe fold the footer in half with a fleece inward, combine the edges. It is better to cut a sheepskin coat and a footer on fur by unfolding the fabric in one layer, while the details are laid out in a mirror.

When cutting a sheepskin coat, pay attention to the fact that it is cut without a selection. And, if the fur has a clearly defined direction of the pile, it should be located up on all the details of the cut.

The footer layout is shown in 3 drawing. Do not forget, the hood must be double. Lobar hood - along or across the line of the face.

We perform cutting from the footer without seam allowances. An exception may be the bottom allowance, but this depends on the desired length of the product. Keep in mind that you will need 3 cm to hem the bottom.

After cutting, do not forget to add notches at the waist level, along the half-skid, at the upper point of the sleeves and along the midline of the "middle" of the hood. For a "solid" hood - notches along the base of the tuck. Don't forget to add notches to the pocket limit points as well. On the barrel pattern, only the upper notch is given, therefore, add the lower notch in accordance with the selected size, comparing the barrel with the shelf along the relief.

And one more important action is the marking of the half-skid on both shelves. Make the markup with a contrasting thread so that it is preserved until the product is ready.

If you have experience in sewing outerwear, then you can perform a partial cutting (shelf-back) before trying on, and cut out the rest of the details later. This will make it possible to choose a sleeve after the armhole has been corrected according to the figure.

How to sew a men's pea coat from a footer at home

We start, as usual, by setting up a knitted seam on your overlocker.

Then, the seam with which you will perform hem operations (overcast and fold) is the bottom of the coat and sleeves. Can be sewn with a blind stitch by hand or by machine using a topstitch or double twin needle for stretch.

A narrow zigzag is needed for seams that do not need to be overcast or the ends of which need to be carefully secured, as well as those that are difficult to complete on an overlock.

The sequence of sewing a pea coat with a hood from a footer with your own hands

  1. Sweep the slot along the middle seam, then, sew the middle seam on the overlock, moving to the slot along the cuts, and iron. Thus, the slot will be processed as a one-sided stock. It remains to perform the fastening, as was done in the skirt.
  2. After cutting and marking the semi-skid (the middle line of the shelf), stitch the burlap along the relief of the shelf in a narrow zigzag, limiting the line with the existing notches.
  3. Stitch reliefs and shoulder seams, iron. All this on an overlock with a knitted seam. Shoulder seams should be sewn down with a strip of thin stretch over the seam. You can strengthen the seam by further continuing the zigzag stitch, but it is better to do this after trying on.
  4. Perform a WTO of the upper half of the sleeve - slightly pull the area of the front roll (strip 4 - 6 cm from the front seam).
  5. On the overlock, sew the front and elbow seams of the sleeve on the overlock and iron them.
  6. Stitch the details of the hood with a narrow zigzag, iron the seams.
  7. The fitting is carried out with the shoulder pad fixed with a pin and the sides stabbed, while the half-skid on both shelves must match. The armhole is adjusted according to the figure. The sleeve is put on, the highest point of the eyelet is combined with the shoulder. Two more points of joining the sleeves and armholes are outlined, taking into account the fit. The sleeve should sit down without jamming. Docking points are marked on the shelf, back and sleeve. It is desirable if these points on the sleeve coincide with the front and elbow rolls. The hood is tried on separately.
  8. After trying on, the selections are duplicated. The pick-up is stitched along the bead line, the allowances are bent towards the pick-up and fixed with a line from the side of the pick-up from the “face”.
  9. The lower hood is being processed.
  10. Ready, already a double hood is tucked into the neck.
  11. The sleeves are also rolled up.
  12. The bottom is overcast, swept up and slightly ironed.
  13. The second fitting is done with a shoulder pad, just like the first. On the fitting, the marking of loops or buttons on the left shelf is performed. The first loop is marked on the most protruding place of the shelf, whether it be the chest or stomach. From it you should “dance” marking the rest of the places of loops or buttons. The fit of the sleeves and hood is checked.
  14. The hood and sleeves are stitched.
  15. Shoulder pads, podkatniki are fixed (if they are present, they are made from the same footer - a strip 3-4 cm wide).
  16. The flyaway cut of the hem and the lower hood is overcast, hemmed with hidden stitches or glued with a "spider line".
  17. The bottom of the product and the sleeves are hemmed. Instead of hemming, the bottom can be glued with a paper-based thermoplastic tape - a "spider line".
  18. Under the loops and buttons, an additional doubler is glued to the selection. You can have a whole strip for marking, you can pieces. It is advisable to cut the edges of the dubbing piece with serrated scissors.
  19. Loops, buttons or buttons. It is better to sew on buttons with underbuttons and on a thread leg so that the button does not deform the sides.
  20. Finishing ironing.
