How to cut raglan hoodies with zipper and pockets according to the finished pattern

When you have decided on the choice of fabric, size and length of the product, you need to decide on the sewing technology and only then proceed to cutting.

Please note that the pattern is longer than in the photo. This is for those who want to simplify the task of sewing a little and process the bottom into an open-hem hem - overcast, fold and hem after sewing on the zipper.

It is also important to decide on the method of processing the relief that goes into the pocket, since seam allowances and additional details depend on this.

To process the overlay of the shelf-pocket with a stitched inlay (this option is simpler and therefore we will consider it in more detail below), you can do without allowances. Let's add only under the zipper 1,5 - 2 cm along the half-skid (half-skid - the middle line of the shelf).

Let me remind you that without allowances, we sew from stretch fabrics with medium stretch, using a knitted seam.

What is a knitted stitch and how not to confuse it with an overcast overlock stitch...

This approach will not only save time on sewing a sweatshirt, but also make all the seams wearable and elastic.

If you choose a more complex processing option, it is shown in the photo. picture 3, then an allowance of 1 cm should be added along the cut of the relief, which goes into the pocket. This option is more complicated, as it involves processing the entrance to the pocket with a facing and stitching the part along the relief from the inside out. This requires experience and confident skills in sewing products from stretch fabrics.

To say more about cutting does not represent difficulties in any case.

The fabric is folded in half face to face (footer - wrong side to wrong side), the parts are laid out taking into account the shared direction in the most economical way.

There are also no difficulties with the direction of the share thread in the details of the cut of the hoodie, but it is worth noting that the share of the side part of the hood does not matter - we lay the pattern of the barrel of the hood arbitrarily.

Details with a fold - the "front" part of the hood and the back - on the fold of the fabric, the "middle-back of the head" can be cut out both along and across, but it is important to remember that this is one detail, it is without a pair. The "middle" of the hood, which is in front (picture 3) - the fold can be both transverse and shared.

How to sew a raglan sweatshirt with a hood and pockets at home

Worth it first customize knit stitch on your overlocker.

Our goal is to iron the inlay on one or both sides, so if you use adhesive tape, then its width should be 1,5 cm. Stick it in the middle of the inlay, but it’s better to stick it on first, then cut it out and iron it.

The ironed inlay is superimposed on the wrong side of the “shelf-pocket” part with the wrong side up and stitched. Masking tape is still stuck at this time. Allowances are obtained on the “face” of the “shelf-pocket” and they need to be stitched onto the face of the shelf.
