Description of the design and style variations of the sweatshirt

This is not the easiest pattern for a sweatshirt with a hood and sewing will require you to have confident skills in cutting and sewing knitted fabrics.

This pattern of a hoodie with raglan sleeves with a zipper and pockets is made on the basis of a "turtleneck", that is, without a bust tuck and therefore is only suitable for girls and women with small breasts.

Girls with large breasts should choose a larger size to increase the free fit allowance.

The anorak-type hood is modeled in such a way that those parts of it that frame the face can be made double. This design feature will allow you to sew a hood without lining.

The pockets are obtained from an overlaid fragment of the shelf, which is also an advantage of the design - we get the largest possible pockets even for small sizes!

About the barrel details. It saves us from the side seam and provides additional opportunities for fitting products of a semi-adjacent silhouette, which is important for individual tailoring. But most importantly, the absence of a side seam saves us from the need to join the sleeve seam with the side seam. In other words, if there was a seam, then we would get the convergence of four corners at one point under the armpit.

Well, cuffs with a protrusion for the thumb - a handy detail for the cold season.

There are not many variations of styles here - with or without a tie at the bottom, that is, the bottom in the hem.

What to sew a raglan sweatshirt with a hood from and how to calculate fabric consumption

Photo of a women's hoodie with a raglan sleeve with a zipper and pocketsBased on the features of the style, it is better to choose knitwear with medium stretch.

Of course, knitwear designed for sewing T-shirts and sweatshirts is preferable. For example, a cooler canvas (cooler).

Heavy and / or loose fabric is not suitable for this style. It is better to give preference to fabrics thin and dense or conditionally medium thickness.

Fleece and footer are suitable only under certain conditions, which relate to the processing of the patchwork of the shelf-pocket and the extensibility of the fabric.

For example, a footer with a thick “felt” fleece or a footer with fur is definitely not suitable. But a thin footer with a pile of loops is well suited.

In addition, you can consider options for combined products, in which the double parts of the hood and the patch on the shelf-pocket are made of thinner fabric.

If you chose a thick loose fabric for the combined option, then choose a larger size.

Fabric consumption with a width of 180 (cooler, footer) will be 115 - 120 cm.

And the consumption with a width of 140-150 cm (fleece and other stitch) - 120 - 135 cm.

The expense for ordinary cuffs is 10–12 cm. For mittens, 24 cm.

How to cut raglan hoodies with zipper and pockets according to the finished pattern

how to cut a women's raglan hoodie with a zipper according to a ready-made pattern rice 2When you have decided on the choice of fabric, size and length of the product, you need to decide on the sewing technology and only then proceed to cutting.

Please note that the pattern is longer than in the photo. This is for those who want to simplify the task of sewing a little and process the bottom into an open-hem hem - overcast, fold and hem after sewing on the zipper.

It is also important to decide on the method of processing the relief that goes into the pocket, since seam allowances and additional details depend on this.

To process the overlay of the shelf-pocket with a stitched inlay (this option is simpler and therefore we will consider it in more detail below), you can do without allowances. Let's add only under the zipper 1,5 - 2 cm along the half-skid (half-skid - the middle line of the shelf).

Let me remind you that without allowances, we sew from stretch fabrics with medium stretch, using a knitted seam.

What is a knitted stitch and how not to confuse it with an overcast overlock stitch...

This approach will not only save time on sewing a sweatshirt, but also make all the seams wearable and elastic.

If you choose a more complex processing option, it is shown in the photo. picture 3, then an allowance of 1 cm should be added along the cut of the relief, which goes into the pocket. This option is more complicated, as it involves processing the entrance to the pocket with a facing and stitching the part along the relief from the inside out. This requires experience and confident skills in sewing products from stretch fabrics.

To say more about cutting does not represent difficulties in any case.

The fabric is folded in half face to face (footer - wrong side to wrong side), the parts are laid out taking into account the shared direction in the most economical way.

There are also no difficulties with the direction of the share thread in the details of the cut of the hoodie, but it is worth noting that the share of the side part of the hood does not matter - we lay the pattern of the barrel of the hood arbitrarily.

Details with a fold - the "front" part of the hood and the back - on the fold of the fabric, the "middle-back of the head" can be cut out both along and across, but it is important to remember that this is one detail, it is without a pair. The "middle" of the hood, which is in front (picture 3) - the fold can be both transverse and shared.

How to sew a raglan sweatshirt with a hood and pockets at home

how to sew a women's raglan hoodie with a zipper according to a finished pattern photo pic 3Worth it first customize knit stitch on your overlocker.

Then, the seams that you will use to hem the bottom of the sweatshirt, a narrow zigzag and think over the finishing stitches. Finishing stitches can be selected from the available in the machine or use a twin needle for stretch.

If there are no suitable stitches, you can use a twin needle for stretch.

The sewing sequence is very simple:

  1. Process the pocket.
  2. Process the hood.
  3. Sew reliefs, sew in sleeves and hood.
  4. Process the cuffs and bottom, if you are sewing a dovyaz.
  5. Attach lightning.
  6. Process the bottom, if the bottom is in the hem.

Consider separately the features of pocket processing in the simplest way - with the help of an inlay.

For stretch, the inlay should not be oblique, but transverse. The optimal width is 3-4 cm. The difficulty lies in the fact that many thin stretch fabrics twist after cutting.

To avoid deformation, tailors use various devices and tricks.

For example, you can iron the inlay with inlay making tools Or use masking tape.

Our goal is to iron the inlay on one or both sides, so if you use adhesive tape, then its width should be 1,5 cm. Stick it in the middle of the inlay, but it’s better to stick it on first, then cut it out and iron it.

The ironed inlay is superimposed on the wrong side of the “shelf-pocket” part with the wrong side up and stitched. Masking tape is still stuck at this time. Allowances are obtained on the “face” of the “shelf-pocket” and they need to be stitched onto the face of the shelf.

After that, remove the adhesive tape and sew on the second ironed edge of the inlay, give a finishing line at the entrance to the pocket and connect the shelf with the shelf-pocket. At the border of the entrance to the pocket there is a bartack.
