Description of the design of the tunic dress and what to sew

A-line silhouette allows girls and women with wide hips to use this model of a tunic dress, and the middle seam on the back allows you to make a fairly thin fit on a figure with protruding buttocks.

The absence of a tuck for the chest somewhat limits the choice of fabric when sewing on figures with large breasts, but this will be discussed below.

The right shelf passes into a kind of cape on the left shoulder.

The hood is big enough to wear without damaging your hair.

What to sew and how to calculate fabric consumption

Pattern of a cardboard pattern for a patch pocketFor sewing a tunic dress, you should choose stretch fabrics of medium stretch. When choosing a fabric, special attention should be paid to extensibility when sewing on a figure with a large chest.

When choosing a footer, you should give preference to its varieties that are not too thick and avoid footer with fur or with a large “felt” fleece. "Bouffant with loops" is what you need for this style.

In addition to the footer, a cooler fabric (cooler) is also suitable - a fabric used for sewing T-shirts and another stretch with medium stretch.

Is jersey worth it? Yes, although this is not ideal, since jersey patch pockets cannot be processed cleanly. Cuffs, in the case of sewing from jersey, will also have to be abandoned.

The consumption of the footer and cooler with a width of 180 cm will be from 140 to 180 cm.

Stretch consumption with a width of 140 cm - from 170 to 220 cm.

The consumption of cuff fabric will be 20 - 25 cm. For cuffs "with a finger" - 25 cm, for high cuffs - 40 - 45 cm.

How to cut a tunic dress according to a finished pattern with your own hands

Cut tunic dresses from stretch fabrics according to the finished patternLet's start by making a cardboard pattern for a patch pocket (picture 2). The pattern is made of thick cardboard without seam allowances, as accurately as possible.

There are three notches on the pattern, two of which define the borders of the pocket entry and one - notch on the allowance.

An allowance of 1 cm along the convex cut and 3 cm - at the entrance to the pocket.

For the rest of the parts, the allowances for the most part will be 0,7 - 1 cm. Exceptions for the neck and armholes - we do not add allowances for these sections. Add 2,5 - 3 cm along the bottom and along the cut of the face of the hood to process it into a hem.

Since the style is asymmetrical, cutting is performed on fabric laid out in one layer (figures 3 и 4). If you do not have enough experience, it is recommended to make duplicates of paired parts - sleeves, backs, hood, pockets and mark their “face” as a mirror image of existing patterns.

We lay out the duplicates on the fabric in a mirror manner in the same fractional direction.

On the 3 drawing cutting from a footer or a cooler is shown, the mitt cuff is cut out separately from the cuff fabric (dovyaz).

On the 4 drawing presented cutting on stretch fabric with a width of 140 - 150 cm. The cuff is high - see its cutting in the bubble.

Before cutting, do not forget to check the length of the sleeve in total with the cuff of your choice and the length of the product.

If necessary, change the length of the template before laying out.

How to sew a tunic dress with a wrap and a hood according to a pattern step by step

Since sewing should be done knitted stitch and a narrow zigzag, then before proceeding, it is better to set them up on the shreds that remained after cutting.

How to set up a knit stitch on an overlocker

In addition, it is advisable to select and test decorative stitches for sewing patch pockets.

  1. We start sewing with the processing of pockets (Fig. 2) - we glue the shared strip of doubler at the entrance to the pocket, iron it, overcast the opening cut of the entrance and fix it with a finishing line (decorative or double). We put a cardboard template on the wrong side of the resulting workpiece and iron the allowance, bending it onto the template.
  2. We put pockets on the shelves symmetrically, we outline and adjust with decorative or double stitching. We iron.
  3. We sew on the overlock the middle seam of the back and the middle seam of the hood. We iron.
  4. We grind the shoulder seams with an overlock, placing a strip of thin stretch for reinforcement. Please note that the seam of the "cape" is sewn separately. The seams are ironed.
  5. We sew the sleeves on the overlock, distributing the okat evenly. We iron.
  6. We carry out the hem of the left lower shelf from the side where it enters the side seam. Overcast, sweep and lightly iron.
  7. We grind the side seams on the overlock, iron it.
  8. We process the bottom of the tunic dress and the hood from the side of the front cut into a hem with an open cut. We overcast, fold, weave, lightly iron, fasten with a double or decorative stitch and iron again.
  9. Processing cuffs.
  10. We sew the cuffs to the sleeve in a zigzag or directly on the overlock.
  11. We sew in the hood, having previously combined the middle seam of the back and hood. We lay the darts like folds or distribute the fit of the hood in the neck evenly ignoring them. We sew in a narrow zigzag and overcast on an overlock. We iron the seam.
