2.2. Description of the design of the style of the sundress

A white t-shirt sundress continues to be one of the main trends in everyday wear in boho, casual and military styles.

The sundress is designed on the basis of a "case" cut off at the waist with a straight skirt.

This design allows you to perform a simple and very accurate fit of the pattern for different types of figures of any height.

Pattern of a T-shirt of the simplest style. The silhouette is semi-adjacent, the sleeve is non-stop.

3. What to sew a sundress with a T-shirt from

A sundress can be sewn not only from denim. Any suit or thick dress fabric will also work.

In addition to jeans, you can use "heavy" linen, thin linen will not work.

For cold seasons, dress or suit wool is suitable for a sundress, as well as tight knitwear with low stretch.

The consumption of fabric for a sundress with a width of 150 cm will be from 150 to 200 cm.

sundress with a white t-shirt photo 3We sew a T-shirt from a cooler fabric (cooler), the consumption of which, with a width of 180 cm, will be from 70 to 110 cm.

In addition, you will need a zipper to process the fastener, the length of which will depend on the method of processing the fastener.

And to process the neck of a T-shirt, you may need a cuff fabric of 5 - 7 cm. Of course, you can do without it.

A skirt and a T-shirt can be sewn according to the same pattern.

5. How to cut a sundress in large and small sizes according to a simple ready-made pattern and how to cut a T-shirt

Layout of patterns for a pattern of small and medium sizes of a sundress and a T-shirtBefore cutting, you should consider options for processing the fastener and bodice of the sundress.

The easiest and most convenient option for processing the bodice of a sundress is to make it "lined", that is, double. The lining can be cut out of a thinner fabric if the sundress is not intended for summer. But for a summer sundress, we just make a double bodice.

The simplest closure option is a long zipper at the back in the middle seam. A more complex one is shown in the photo - a trouser-type fastener, in which the zipper reaches the waist, and above there are loops with buttons.

On the drawings 1, 2 и 3 the allowances for processing the fastener and slots of the “cut” type are shaded. In addition, the area of the pocket is indicated by hatching.

Having decided on the processing methods, we will consider the seam allowances necessary for sewing a sundress and for trying on, in order to accurately adapt the product to the height and features of the figure.

So, for the bodice, add 1 cm along the middle seam of the back and along the side seams.

At the waist and along the shoulder seam of the berets - 3 cm each.

We do not add allowances along the armholes and neckline cutouts.

For a skirt - do not add at the waist, only "houses" above the tucks.

Along the side seams and along the middle seam of the skirt skirt - 1 cm. Along the middle seam of the PP - 1 cm.

Layout of patterns for a pattern of large sizes of a sundress and a T-shirtOn the bottom - 2,5 - 3 cm.

Cutting a sundress is not difficult. We fold the fabric in half, face inward, combine the edges and place them parallel to the edge of the cutting table.

We lay out the patterns in accordance with the shared direction. For details of the lining of the bodice, the fractional direction is not so important.

Allowances for burlap, so as not to get confused, 1 cm, except for the cut of the waist and the cut of the pocket entrance. We do not add allowances for them.

As for the PP, the corner of the pattern before entering the pocket can be pre-folded and cut out, as shown in 2 drawing. But you can cut out the PP completely, as shown in fig. 3 to use this corner to finish the pocket (lay and topstitch on burlap, as is done in dress pants). This moment is at the discretion of the couturier.

On the 2 drawing the layout for small sizes is shown, on 3 drawing - for the big ones.

After cutting the sundress, while the parts are folded in pairs, we perform notches along the half-slide, along the tucks and pocket.

Open T-shirts (drawings 4 и 5) looks more complex, but this is a misleading impression due to the fact that the fabric folds differently. We need two folds (the front fold and the back fold) as the T-shirt should not have middle seams.

On the 4 drawing the layout for small sizes is shown. The fabric is folded along the width of the T-shirt back pattern, then along the width of the T-shirt shelf. The sleeves are cut out between them mirrored.

Layout patterns for a pattern of T-shirts of small sizesBig sizes (picture 5) are cut out in the same way - the fabric is folded separately for the back and for the shelf. But the sleeves do not fit into the lunge of the fabric between the shelf and the back.

To cut the sleeve, fold the fabric in half, as usual, matching the edges. We place the pattern closer to the edges to get a big lunge.

To process the neck, we use a transverse strip of fabric 6–8 cm wide, if desired.

We cut the strip from cuff fabric or from the same cooler as the T-shirt.

Seam allowances are NOT needed.

6. How easy it is to sew a sundress under a T-shirt and the T-shirt itself with your own hands at home

Sewing a sundress cut off at the waist with a straight skirt differs little from sewing a sheath dress cut off at the waist.

You need to assemble the bodice and assemble the skirt, then try it on to accurately determine the desired length of the bodice. And connect the "top" with the "bottom".

Pattern layout for large size T-shirtsThere is a caveat: in order to accurately determine the fit of the product, the middle seam of the bodice and the middle seam of the skirt should be processed last. For fitting, the middle seams should be swept.

Now that the main stages are considered, let's move on to the details.

  1. We grind and iron the darts of the back of the bodice and the skirt, iron them, duplicate the allowances for the fastener in the upper bodice, it is not necessary in the lining, duplicate the allowances for the fastener and slots on the PP of the skirt.
  2. We grind the neckline and armhole of the back, connecting the "top" and "lining"; we grind the armhole and neckline of the shelf, connecting the "top" and the "lining". Do not forget about notches in the corners and along the armhole. We grind the side seams of the top and lining with one line, iron. Now you can sweep the edging and iron it. The middle seam of the back and shoulder straps can be immediately swept away. The bodice is ready for the dressing room.
  3. We process the pocket of the cutting barrel.
See how to sew a pocket video и drawings.
  4. We process the middle seam of the PP skirt - first, a fragment between the fastener and the slot - we grind and iron in the direction of the fastener, for the slots we make a notch to spread out and iron out the allowances. We process the clasp.
See video master class on sewing a simple trouser fastener и drawings
  5. We sweep the middle seam of the skirt and we are ready to try on.
  6. On the fitting, we determine the length of the straps and bodice, adjust the fit with the middle seam of the back. To do this, we added large allowances. We tie up a linen elastic band and outline the waist on the bodice. We try on the skirt, adjust the fit with the middle seam.
  7. After trying on, we grind the middle seams of the bodice and skirt, iron it. We grind off the straps, inserting the back strap from the strap of the shelf, while the shelf is turned inside out.
  8. We connect the bodice and the skirt according to the markup, we process the fastener of the bodice.
  9. Finishing lines, a bottom of a skirt and a vent. Finishing ironing.

How to sew a T-shirt at home

T-shirt sewing is even easier - we use the knitted seam of a household overlock ...

  1. We grind one of the shoulder sections, placing a strip of a cooler 1 cm wide. Iron it.
  2. We process the neck by sewing a knitted seam along a transverse strip of cuff fabric or the same cooler ironed along. The strip is slightly stretched when sewing. We iron.
  3. We grind the second shoulder cut, also placing a strip of cooler, iron the seam.
  4. We sew the sleeve, evenly distributing it throughout the armhole. On the overlock with a knitted seam, without tucking in. We iron the seam.
How to sew a non-stop sleeve sewing video
  5. We grind the side seams on the overlock with a knitted seam, iron it.
  6. We process the bottom into a hem with an open cut - we fold it once, iron it, we lay a line with a double needle or a zigzag. You can sew a line. We iron.
  7. We fix the neck seam with a double needle stitch or a zigzag stitch, or a topstitch. We iron.
