6. How to cut a sundress - a vest of large and small sizes according to ready-made patterns

Before you start, you should decide exactly what kind of armhole you need. Please note that a more open armhole does not suit women with narrow shoulders and wide hips to the same extent as women with wide shoulders and narrow hips.

The choice of size depends on what this sundress will be worn on - a T-shirt, T-shirt or loose blouse. Or maybe a loose turtleneck? When choosing a size, compare the volume of the patterns for the chest and hips with finished products of the same type.

Having chosen the size, in addition to the main patterns, complete the piping patterns for the back and shelves for the shelves. The lines for cutting the facing and the edges are marked on the patterns (Fig. 1 - 2).

Add regular seam allowances - 1 cm, except for the bottom of the product and the bottom of the right shelf. Bottom - 2,5 - 3 cm. Another allowance is needed as a selection for the lower right shelf. Here you need a wide "hem". It is better if it is close to the width of the selection for the left shelf in its lower part. Another exception is the top cut (entry line) for patch pockets. Here the allowance is up to 3 cm, as on the bottom of the product.

The layout does not have any features (Fig. 2) - like all asymmetric models, we cut on a fabric spread face up. Of course, do NOT fold in half, that is, in one layer.

Parts are laid in accordance with the shared direction, which is indicated on the patterns and coincides with the half-drift and the center line.

For the selection of the right shelf, an exception is made - a share along the edge of the selection.

For the left shelf, you can choose a more complex way of cutting the selection by combining its lower part with the left shelf, and position the upper part along so that the share runs along the edge of the side.

Such combined selections are often found in outerwear, for example in raincoats or coats

In other words, experienced couturiers can “unmodel” the selection and thereby simplify its processing a little.

As for the duplication of picks, it depends on your idea and fabric. In summer boho products, the selection is often not duplicated or a very thin doubler is chosen. You can glue only a thin edge of interlining or doubler under the line of the selection so that the bead remains soft and does not stretch.

Marking pockets is best done on fitting.

But for pockets in the side seam, which I strongly recommend to you for this product, it is better to make notches immediately after cutting.

Putting all the side seams together, aligning the waist (you will also need a notch there), step back 5-7 cm from the waist and put the first notch.

Then, attach the burlap with the cut of the pocket entry to the side cuts and make a second notch along the lower point of the cut of the pocket entry.

7. How to sew a vest - a trapezoid sundress with a flounce at home - sewing sequence

1. We start with the middle seam of the back, stitching it with a linen seam.
2. Boards, tucks, turning.
3. We grind the shoulder seams, inserting the shoulder sections of the back into the shelves turned inside out.
4. We fasten the lower part of the right shelf to the upper one and sweep the side seams for fitting.
5. On the fitting, we perform correction along the side cuts, if necessary, and mark the patch pockets in place.
6. We process patch pockets and stitch burlap to the side seams.
7. Side seams and hem.
8. Loops and buttons.
