Description of the design of a cut-off sundress pattern with a flared skirt on the assembly
This is a fairly simple style of a sundress cut off at the waist for the summer.
The bodice is with reliefs on the back and front.
The flared skirt has a gather at the waist and a side seam pocket.
Please note that the half-skid line (the line of the middle of the body in front) is not marked on the patterns. This is because the half skid runs in the middle of the finished bar.
From what to sew a cut-off sundress with a flared skirt on the assembly
We choose fabrics according to the principle “the thinner the better”.
Chintz, cambric and fine linen are suitable.
Muslin and staple can be considered less suitable, since the side seams of the skirt will stretch a lot.
Thin denim, cotton satin, shirting fabric are also good.
The consumption will be approximately 180 cm. When calculating, the width of the frill along the bottom is 15 cm, the width of the frill along the bodice is 10 cm.

How to cut a sundress according to a finished pattern
Consider seam allowances for custom tailoring (picture 2).
We add 3-5 cm along the waist cut of the bodice in order to be able to perform a high-quality fitting, taking into account the peculiarities of the posture of a particular figure.
We don’t add allowances along the waist cut of the skirt and right off into the pocket - we circled and cut out the part with the stroke line. It will turn out 0,3 - 0,5 cm.
Now about the dimensions of the rectangular parts. They are details-stripes.
Strap:
Plank width = 2 Plank width in finished form + 2 cm = 2x3 + 2 = 8 cm
Strap length = Skirt length + Shelf height + 4 cm (different for different sizes)
Straps should also provide us with high-quality fitting, so the length is chosen with a large margin. We take into account that each figure will have its own slope of the straps so that they do not slip off the shoulders and, if necessary, cover the bra straps. The recommended length of the straps in cutting is about 50 cm.
Strap width = 2 finished strap widths + 2 cm.
The width of the frills depends on how they are processed. As mentioned above, when calculating the consumption, the width of the frill along the bottom is 15 cm and along the bodice 10 cm.
Ruffle length at the bottom = 2 fabric widths = 300 cm
The length of the frill along the top of the bodice = 1,5 the length of the top cut of the bodice in finished form
And briefly about equity threads.
On the patterns, the share is indicated, but it is worth noting that the middle seam of the RFP should not coincide with the share thread.
Plank - fractional along the part. For a sundress made of checkered or striped fabrics, you can cut the bar along the oblique thread, placing it between the side sections of the PP and ZP.
Straps - fractional along the details. If you cut on an oblique, then be sure to duplicate with a shared strip of dublerin or a special edge.
Frills - fractional across the details, although this is not important. If the fabric is in a large cage, then you can cut the frills along the oblique. Do not forget that for a bias cut you will need significantly more fabric.
How to sew a sundress
- Assemble the bodice. The subsequent correction of the volume of the bodice can be carried out only along the middle seam of the back, so we sweep the middle seam.
- Process the pocket and collect the skirt.
- Iron the placket and stitch the straps.
- Baste the bar to the bodice and you can try on.
- At the fitting, we pin the straps to the area of the reliefs, tie the bodice with a thin linen elastic band and adjust the length of the bodice using the length of the straps and the position at the waist. Please note that under the elastic band there may be a strip of different widths in front and behind.
- When the length and position of the straps are determined, the waist is outlined, the upper cut of the bodice can be processed. For example, sew a frill and edging. We do not sew the plank.
- We connect the bodice with the skirt and you can carry out a second fitting to align the bottom of the skirt and, if necessary, adjust the length.
- Only after that you can sew a frill on the bottom of the skirt and process the bar.
- Loops, buttons or buttons and finishing ironing.
