Questions about cutting chiffon are quite common.

Beginning couturiers are probably intimidated by the “delicacy” of this amazing fabric.

Again I share my experience already, attaching a master class on cutting to the words of the video.

The main difficulty is the lightness and slipperiness of this fabric.

I tried to cut chiffon on a blanket, on a carpet on the floor, spraying with hairspray, laying a newspaper ...

Yes, all these methods “work”, but the method with weights turned out to be the most convenient for me, which is shown in the video tutorial.

Now I just press the fabric along the cross section, then pull the edge and straighten it.

I also press the patterns and, without circling, cut out with allowances. You have to skip the stroke, because when you press on the chalk, the chiffon moves.

It is important that all lines are signed on the patterns and all notches are made. And after cutting out the details, it is advisable to chop the details and patterns with pins. It is inconvenient to do this before cutting out - the chiffon shifts.

If you develop the style yourself, then try to reduce the number of seams and the number of parts that will have to be duplicated.

And, of course, patternless cutting is not suitable for chiffon.

That is, all the features of cutting chiffon should be taken into account even before cutting - at the stage of developing patterns.

Given the properties of chiffon, the most successful models will be loose or semi-adjacent silhouettes with a minimum of seams and darts.

When designing the style of the product, immediately think about how to process seams and cuts.

I put the finished patterns on a chiffon coupon laid out on the table, taking into account the pattern.

I press the placed parts with weights and cut them out with the necessary allowances for processing. Unfortunately, it is impossible to draw on such fabric.

In this video tutorial, I show the technique of high-speed modeling of a sleeve with an assembly.

First I cut out one side, then the other and smoothly move on to the okat.

I pay special attention to the placement of the yoke of the shelf with a one-piece collar: the pattern should be located only on the collar, and the background on the yoke, since the underside of the pattern is a little paler.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to choose the ideal option, since the pattern is asymmetrical. But I try to get closer to the ideal placement of the yoke on the fabric.
