3. Description of the design of the style of this dress - shirt

Large size pattern of a dress-shirt on a yoke with a relief photo 3The back yoke is combined with the front yoke, so there is no shoulder seam. Such an exclusion of the shoulder seam from the design is of practical importance only in men's clothing, increasing wear resistance also with a double yoke. For a dress, such a coquette is just a decorative element.

Reliefs - make it possible to fine-tune the dress according to the figure, especially if you want to increase the degree of fit of the product at the waist.

The sleeve is non-stop, that is, the hem is evenly distributed along the armhole and therefore may not be tucked in even by tailors with little sewing experience. To improve the fit, there are some subtleties that will be outlined below.

The pocket in the seam of the yoke under the flap is very simple and does not require sewing skills, only precision in work.

The pocket on the barrel of the shelf can be simplified so that it becomes accessible even to a novice fashion designer.

4. What to sew a shirt dress for summer and winter

Any stable fabric is suitable for this style. For example, linen and chintz are well suited for summer, dress or suit wool for winter.

To prevent the dress from wrinkling and shrinking when washed, choose fabrics with a small amount of artificial or synthetic fibers.

The consumption will be from 160 to 240 cm with a width of 150 cm. This is without a yoke and with a 3/4 length sleeve.

The consumption of companion fabric for cutting the yoke, placket and other details is 50 cm, with a width of 150. This is more than you need for the yoke and cuffs, but the placket and inlays must be solid, without additional stitching.

6. How to cut a combined dress - a shirt on a yoke

How to cut a shirt dress on a yoke with a relief according to a finished pattern (Figure 2)Cutting is simple and similar to cutting a sheath dress (picture 2).

Seam allowances - 1 cm. Exceptions - armholes, neck and sleeve hem - allowances are NOT added for these sections. On the bottom 2,5 - 4 cm, depending on whether you will process the bottom with an open cut (single hem) or closed (double hem).

The place of the strap on the pattern is marked with hatching.

For a double yoke, the "lower" yoke is cut from the main fabric. It can be cut without a middle seam on the back, as in 2 drawing or with a middle seam, as in picture 3.

It is better to postpone opening the collar until you need it, that is, until the second fitting.

Includes two styles of collar:

  1. Collar on the stand - for a product with a fastener to the top, as in a men's shirt.
  2. Turn-down collar - for a product with an open neck, as in the photo.

If you choose a collar on a stand, as in a men's shirt, then it is better to cut along the length of the neck of the product. For a turn-down collar, this is not so critical.

The cutting of details from the finishing fabric is shown in fig. 3 and requires detailed explanations.

How to cut a shirt dress on a yoke with a relief according to a finished pattern (Figure 3)To cut the yoke, the fabric can be folded in half, as usual. After - spread in one layer and mark the strips - strips of 5 cm.

Pay attention to the length of the bar in the cut.

Plank length in cutting = shelf plank length + coquette plank length + 5(6) cm

In this case, it is better to add an extra centimeter or two to the length and cut it off after processing.

How many plank parts you need, decide for yourself. The bar can process one side (left side to the hem) or two sides. Do you need a finish along the middle seam of the back and how many trims are needed for reliefs - 2 or 4 - is also your decision.

An oblique inlay, which “covers” the seams of the reliefs, is also desirable without additional stitches.

We cut out the imitation of cuffs according to the pattern of the sleeve.

Cuff width = strap width = 5 cm.

Straps - length and quantity as desired.

Now about burlap and about simplifying the processing of a leaf-type pocket.

The pocket can be simplified if the “leaf” itself is excluded and instead of a leaflet, a slot is made using two pieces of burlap as a facing. And cut the second two from the burlap part from the companion fabric and use as a valance. As a result, we get a pocket visually very similar to a leaflet with a rectangular entrance.

The only thing that still needs to be done is to duplicate the burlap-turning in the area of the hole being processed.

After cutting, make notches along the waistline so as not to warp the parts during assembly. Mark out pockets.

7. How to sew a dress - a shirt with your own hands step by step

Let's start with how to prepare the bar and inlays for the sewing process.

If the strips for the sides should be ironed on one side by 1 cm, then it is better to iron the inlays for finishing the reliefs using a fixture.

How to make a slanting inlay - video master class

Before you start sewing, you also need to think about the processing of seams that will be trimmed with oblique trim.

There are two seam options here:

  1. as usual, stitch, iron, overcast and stitch the inlay on the front side.
  2. stitch open cuts on the front side of the product, iron, cut the seams, leaving 0,5 cm and “close” the cuts with an inlay, stitching it.

When the preparatory work is completed and the processing of the dress is thought out to the smallest detail, you can proceed directly to sewing.

  1. We start by assembling the middle seam of the back, side seams and reliefs. Having taken a coquette, you can try on, after which you can finish the seams.
  2. Valves
  3. Then the top pockets. For a pocket under the yoke: a valve and burlap are sewn to the yoke, burlap is sewn to the shelf, seams are made connecting the yoke to the dress.
  4. Simplified processing of the bottom pocket is described above.
  5. Lower yoke - connect along the back.
  6. Next - the processing of the sides with a bar and the connection along the sides with the lower yoke. To do this, fold the “face” of the plank with the wrong side of the middle part of the shelf, stitch, iron the seam towards the middle part, stitch, release the edging, iron, stitch (or baste) the ironed edge. For the subsequent clean processing of the bottom, do not complete the ironed edge of 10 cm to the end. Please note that the yokes are NOT connected along the neck and armholes.
  7. Work on the straps and the sleeve.
  8. Second sample. Choose a collar - style, end shape and size. If a shoulder pad is provided, put it on. Check the shape of the armhole. You can roll up the sleeve and check the fit, length, etc.
  9. Stitch the collar after trying on.
  10. Stitch the collar into the neck, moving to the "lapels".
  11. Sew on the sleeve and work on the armhole.
  12. Work on the bottom. In the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe bar - grind - the lower cut of the bar should be under it inside. Further - in the hem, as originally planned.
  13. Finishing line on the bar.
  14. Loops and buttons. Please note that you should not make all loops work.
