2.2. Description of the design of a sundress - a case with a narrowed skirt

A sheath sundress is one of the simplest models of women's business clothing.

The sundress is designed on the basis of a classic skirt with a slit along the middle seam of the RFP. The skirt is slightly tapered at the bottom.

Pocket - a classic cut barrel with a straight line of entry into the pocket.

The sides imitate the sides of a jacket.

3. What to sew a sundress from - a case for summer and winter

For example, loden, tweed, tartan and even lightweight drape. Any suit fabric will also look appropriate.

Thick denim is unrivaled and suitable for almost any season.

For summer, you can choose both a summer suit fabric and a thin denim jacket. Both natural and artificial linen, heavy silk and other dense fabrics of the summer assortment are suitable.

5. How to cut a sundress - a case with a narrowed skirt according to a finished pattern

Cutting is not difficult, but it will require some attention and preliminary thinking through the technology of individual tailoring of the product.

Seam allowances - 1 cm, with the exception of the bottom - 3 cm, as well as sections of the neck, waist, pocket entrance, sides and sections of the "armhole" - allowances are not added to them.

Let's take a closer look at the allowances on some details so that there is no confusion.

Pocket burlap: if you do not add an allowance at the entrance to the pocket on the burlap, then you do not need to add an allowance at the entrance to the pocket on the PP of the skirt (front half); in the area of the side seam, an allowance of 1 cm, as well as on the PP skirt; on the bottom of the burlap, you can add or not add a seam allowance, it depends on whether you want to keep the size of the burlap after processing or reduce it.

Now let's analyze the PP skirts.

An allowance for a trouser-type fastener has already been added to it and an additional allowance for it is not required.

The RFP of the skirt already has an allowance for slots, so we only add 1 cm along the side seams and up to 3 cm along the bottom.

The only thing needed for the fit is a shoulder seam allowance.

Collar - "around" 1 cm.

The cut of the "armhole" of the bodice does not require an allowance, but if you want to maintain the length of the shoulder or increase it, you can add any allowance - from 2 to 5 cm.

Let's dwell on the waist allowance for the bodice.

Usually, with individual tailoring of products cut off at the waist, a large allowance is added along the waist cut of the bodice - from 3 - 5 cm, so that it is possible to accurately adjust the length of the bodice to the waist during the fitting.

Given that the fitting may reveal the need for shoulder pads, or the need to make the waist slightly higher or lower than its anatomical location on the figure, this approach will achieve the most acceptable result from an aesthetic point of view.

For this model, an allowance for the cut of the waist of the bodice is required only if there is no belt in it.

The width of the belt in finished form is 4 - 5 cm.

Belt width in cutting = 2 widths in finished form + 2 cm

Belt length in cutting = semi-waist circumference + 10 cm

This calculation is given taking into account the variant of the sundress processing described below. This is the easiest option to achieve the perfect fit sundress on the figure.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the collar. It is better to cut it out after the second fitting - fitting the bodice with a skirt, when the sides and shoulder seams are processed. Cut the length of the collar along the length of the neck, shortening it along the correction lines.

6. How to sew a sundress - a case with your own hands

(the simplest option is considered)

  1. We start with the assembly of the skirt: a pocket, the middle seam of the PP and a clasp, the middle seam of the RFP and a slot, the side seams can be swept and tried on.
  2. Finish processing the skirt - belt, bottom.
  3. Collect the bodice, process the sides. The facing of the sprout (the neck of the back) can be sewn to the selection along the shoulder seams, but the sprout itself is still left unprocessed.
  4. Open the collar.
  5. The second fitting is to decide on the need for shoulder pads and the length of the bodice, tucking it under the skirt belt, trying on the collar.
  6. Sweep and sew in the collar, process the sprout with a facing.
  7. Lines "armhole" to process in a hem or turn over.
