Let's start with the fact that the principles of cutting products from natural and artificial fur are largely the same:

ALL details of the top should have one pile direction, and paired details should exactly mirror the pattern.

The fur should be cut with a special knife or scissors, NOT cutting the fur.

Attention! We cut only the fabric base of artificial fur or natural fur, and DO NOT touch the pile!

It follows from this that it is possible to accurately calculate the consumption only if you have all the patterns (including the selection) with you. If you have little sewing experience, make duplicate patterns.

Let's take a closer look at the whole cutting process.

The set of patterns for this model of a fur coat / short fur coat includes: a shelf, a back, a stand-up collar and two halves of the sleeve (Fig. 1). On the patterns of the back and front, there are two options for the length of the short fur coat.

Make it right awaye double pattern shelves.

After the above patterns of the fur coat are prepared for cutting, we will make a selection pattern according to the copy of the pattern of the shelf: draw a straight line down from the top of the chest tuck so that the width of the selection at the bottom is 6 - 8 cm (Fig. 2 a).

We cut the double of the shelf pattern according to the marking into two parts: the edge and the fragment of the shelf - we also use it when cutting the lining.

And we cut the selection pattern into two parts horizontally and connect the lower part of the selection with the shelf end-to-end with adhesive tape (Fig. 2 b).

The upper part of the selection will be cut out separately (Fig. 2 c).

Pay attention to the allowances for processing the collar: on the shelf they will be 1 - 1,5 cm, and on the selection - 0,7. This difference will give us the opportunity to “hide” the collar turning seam on the side of the collar.

The remaining allowances do not differ from the seam allowances used when cutting a dress or coat: shoulder-side, “vertical” seams of the sleeve - 1 cm, along the bottom of the fur coat and sleeve - 4 cm, along the front - 1 cm. and an okata, as usual, we cut out for the stroke line of the pattern.

But the layout of patterns when cutting faux fur is very different from other layouts (Fig. 3).

As mentioned above, the fur cannot be folded in half, and all patterns should be laid so that the direction of the pile is the same for all the details of the "top".

But, the patterns of the upper part of the headband and the rack should be placed in the "reverse" direction.

That is, if for the shelf, back and sleeves the direction of the pile is from top to bottom, then for the upper part of the selection and details of the rack, from the bottom up.

If you have little experience or you have to cut from expensive natural fur or faux fur with wide stripes, you can make duplicates of all patterns.

As for natural fur, before cutting, you should “collect” the “plates” for the back and front. At the same time, the best parts of the skins should go to the middle parts of the shelf and back. Pick-ups and bottom racks can be cut from the belly or fur waste. It is important not to confuse the “upper” halves of the rack and the “lower” halves later.

When cutting fur with wide stripes, it is desirable that the strips run in the middle of the back and in the middle of the shelves. And the back half of the sleeve should continue the strip of the front half.

On fig. 3 shows the cutting of a fur coat of the 62nd size. As you can see, two product lengths may not be enough. For smaller sizes, the consumption will be the sum of the lengths of the shelf and back + 12 cm.

Cutting the lining is very easy. We use a fragment of a shelf double (Fig. 2 a), which remained after the manufacture of the selection pattern.

The lining fabric is folded in half, the edges are aligned and parallel to the edge of the cutting table. The back is laid on the fold of the fabric. The layout is “jack”, the sleeve can be cut both along and across, depending on the size of the product.

The seam allowances are the same as for the fur (Fig. 4).

The insulating pad is cut along the details of the lining, but not for the entire length. Approximately, the insulation should be the same length as the short fur coat.

For a short fur coat, the insulation is cut out for the entire length of the product, but without a seam allowance along the bottom.
