The choice of fabric for the dress, consumption and what is in the set of patterns

A set of patterns for a simple midi maxi dress on the floor

Sizes: 42-52 and 52-62 (the buyer gets to choose one of the gradations of sizes)

File format for download in order:

PDF in full size and without seam allowances.

After paying for the order, you will receive links to download two files patterns of a dress of the gradation of the sizes chosen by you:

  1. PDF file A4, adapted for printing patterns on sheets of A4 paper in any program on any device, including mobile phones.
  2. Multi-format PDF file for printing on sheets of any size from A0 to A4 on a printer or plotter using Adobe Reader.

This dress pattern is for Beginners tailors who learn to tuck in a sleeve. Difficulty level: simple.

A trapezoid silhouette without darts with a clearly defined waist is suitable for all types of figures and various builds. It looks good both on thin girls and curvy ladies.

The choice of fabric for the dress

For tailoring, it is advisable to use only thin fabrics, such as crepe chiffon or thin silk. Chiffon is also suitable, but in this case the shelf and back will have to be made double.

Stretch fabrics are also suitable for sewing a dress of this model. Of course, the stretch should be thin and well draped so that the gathering on the chest lies, and does not bulge.

Sketch of a pattern for a back and a shelf for a simple floor-length dressYou should be doubly careful with the choice of highly stretchable knitted fabrics such as "butter" - they greatly emphasize all the details of the figure, highlight underwear and problem areas. In addition, fabrics with a high elongation coefficient are difficult to cut accurately due to the fact that they stretch a lot under their own weight. That is, the longer the dress, the more the fabric stretches.

How to determine the coefficient of arbitrary extensibility before opening the dress, read here (point 8)

Fabric consumption for this dress

Fabric consumption with a width of 140 cm with a midi length (under the knee) with a 3/4 sleeve will be from 170 to 200 cm, depending on the size.

Consumption with the same width for a maxi dress (floor-length) will be 270 - 300 cm, also depending on the size.

What's in the set of floor-length dress patterns

The set of dress patterns includes

(picture 1):

  1. shelf patterns;
  2. backrests
    pattern sketches;
  3. two sleeves with gathered collar
    (sleeve pattern example);
  4. burlap for a pocket in the side seam.

Attention! Patterns for shelves and backs are given in the midi version!

They should be extended by 40 - 50 cmif you need maximum length by extending the cuts. This "stripped format" saves paper and reduces the cost of printing for buyers who print patterns on a plotter.

How to cut such a simple dress to the floor for beginners

Sketches of patterns of two types of sleeves for this dressI'll start with seam allowancespicture 2):

  1. side and shoulder sections of the shelf and back, as well as "vertical" sections of the sleeve and burlap - 1 cm;
  2. the sprout, neck, sleeve hem and bottom of the sleeve do not require allowances and, if they are added, the pattern will be distorted and make it difficult for you to try on;
  3. average seam from 1 cm (above) to 3 cm (at the bottom of the back). Focus on the midline and the index of the lobar thread.

If you need a floor length dress, then you need to extend the middle seam of the back, side seams and half-skid by the same amount within 40 - 50 cm.

To find out exactly, take a measure of the length of the product - Di from the side point of the sprout to the floor. Of course, you need to take this measurement in the shoes that you will wear with this dress.

Then, from Di's measurement, subtract Di, measured according to the pattern, add to the processing of the bottom and you will get a difference, by which the patterns should be lengthened:

Di according to the figure minus Di according to the pattern + bottom processing

Watch the video master class on taking measurements and read about how to remove them.

Layout - "Jack" (picture 2). The fabric is folded in half face inward, and the edges should be aligned.

Immediately after cutting, when the paired parts are still folded face to face, make notches on the shelf and sleeves that limit the assembly areas. Make notches on the burlap pockets to limit the length of the pocket entry. Without these notches, the pocket cannot be processed.

How to sew a dress to the floor with your own hands step by step for beginners

  1. Gather at the neckline and around the sleeves with a weak machine stitch to be able to loosen or tighten the gathering threads during the fitting. Watch the video sewing master class about this and other types of assembly.
  2. Baste the shoulder, side cuts of the dress and vertical cuts of the sleeve. Baste the middle cut of the back and iron. At the fitting, you will determine whether you need a zipper to put on the dress.
  3. Fitting. Loosen or tighten the neck assembly if necessary. Draw lines for you to cut the armhole. Tie the figure of the customer with a linen elastic band, form a lap and outline the waist line on the dress. Try on the sleeve, loosen or tighten the gather if needed. Decide if you need a zipper in the middle seam of the dress. Mark the pockets.
  4. Pivot the neckline and bottom of the sleeve (or process the bottom of the sleeve in another way). Watch the video tutorial on sewing how to edge cuts with an oblique trim without a device и video master class on working with a binder.
  5. Stitch the burlap pockets along the section of the entrance to the pocket, first limiting this section of the entrance to the pocket with notches. Overcast and iron the joining seam. Stitch the side seams, switching to burlap, overcast the cuts and iron them.
  6. Stitch the middle seam of the back and attach the zipper. Watch the video tutorial on sewing for beginners how to sew a hidden zipper with preliminary tacking и video master class on sewing for experienced for attaching a hidden zipper with a professional tool without tacking.
  7. After that, you can roll up the sleeves. Watch the video master class on knitting sleeves with assembly in a special way.
  8. Align the waist line outlined for you on the fitting. It should be not only even, but also symmetrical. Lay 2 - 3 lines along it with rubber thread to fix the waist of the product. See an example of working with rubber thread in video tutorial on sewing overalls.
  9. After weaving in the sleeves and fixing the waist, one more fitting should be carried out. On the second fitting, check the fit of the sleeves and align the length.
  10. It remains to process the bottom, in the way you have already chosen - and you're done!
