Description of construction kimono dress patterns

As mentioned above, this dress has a one-piece kimono sleeve.

The sleeve is short enough that it can be used for a summer product.

The dress is detachable at the waist, which allows you to separately try on the bodice and precisely fit it not only in height, but also in shape.

The skirt is made of four wedges. Front wedge with soft pleats.

The pocket is very simple - like a cut barrel with a concave entry line.

But novice couturiers can sew a dress without a pocket.

Half-belt ties enter the side seams of the bodice.

What to sew summer kimono dress

Summer dress with a lowered shoulder skirt wedges pattern photo 3The most suitable for this summer dress would be striped or plaid chintz, as the wedges will effectively use the geometry of the fabric.

So, chintz and linen are the leaders of choice, gabardine, muslin and cambric are also suitable.

But for full ladies, when choosing a thin fabric, it is recommended to make a skirt skirt without a seam, laying the middle line on the fabric fold when cutting the skirt.

Staple and dress satin are suitable.

And do not worry if the fabric wrinkles a lot. This dress will be easy to iron.

It should be noted that this style looks good when sewing from printed silk fabrics.

Jacquard "sandwiches" are also suitable. It is the best choice for holidays and special occasions.

Please note that the dress is also suitable for cold weather if you put it on a turtleneck. In this case, dress wool, a thin striped “suit” and, of course, a tartan would be a good solution.

Fabric consumption with a width of 150 cm will be from 240 cm to 280 cm.

If you want to save money, lay out patterns before buying fabric.

Как cut a summer kimono dress according to ready-made patterns

How to cut a dress for summer, a kimono sleeve, a skirt with wedges according to a ready-made pattern (Figure 2)First, choose a size. Since the dress is pulled together by a half-belt, you can choose a larger size. A looser dress is suitable for hotter climates or if the fabric is very thin. A larger size is worth choosing if you are going to wear a turtleneck dress.

Seam allowances 1 cm except for the neckline and waist (Fig. 2). Let's consider them in more detail.

For the bodice, it is better to add a large allowance at the waist in order to be able to make a quality fitting. And tall girls (from 170 cm) are simply obliged to add 4-6 cm to the waist of the bodice!

We do not add an allowance for the sprout and cut out the sprout facing first from doubler or interlining according to the pattern without seam allowances.

As for the shelf of the bodice, a straight share (along the edge) strip of dublerin with a width of 5,5 - 6 cm will serve as a facing (selection). We cut it 10 cm longer than the cut of the neck of the shelf.

When laying out the patterns, next to the shelf, as shown in fig. 2, we lay the blank of the selection from the dublerin.

We place the details of the skirt so that the middle and side seams do not coincide with the shared line. The only exception is when cutting for full ladies and / or from very thin fabrics - the middle line of the RFP in this case should be laid on the fold of the fabric. It is not necessary to do this, but if you want the dress to be worn longer, it is desirable.

As for the PP, if the pocket is not needed or you are still in doubt, you can cut it out entirely without cutting out the pocket (Fig. 2-3), you can cut the barrel later.

Burlap: no allowance is needed at the waist, at the entrance to the pocket - 0,7 cm (on the PP too).

Lobar - along the fold or should coincide with the lobar PP. A cut fragment of the barrel will help with this - put the fragment on the pattern and move them over the fabric so that the share barrel and the fabric match.

For ties, share along.

The share is indicated on the patterns for fabrics in stripes or in a cage.

Как kimono dress at home using custom tailoring technology

How to cut a summer dress for a full sleeve kimono skirt with wedges according to a pattern pic 3First, let's look at how to process the seams and choose the method that suits us best:

  1. Stitch and overcast on an overlocker. This is the most unsuitable method for processing thin fabrics, but if the fabric is not very thin, then it can be used.
  2. Edging of cuts after stitching with an oblique inlay. If the inlay is of industrial production, then it has some rigidity and this method is especially good for highly wrinkled and “shapeless” fabrics. For example, for muslin or staple. For thin cambric or chiffon, it may be better to use a trim made from the same fabric.
  3. A stitching (linen) seam is well suited for both batiste and staple or dress satin, as well as for shirt or dress chintz. And in this case, an overlock is not required.
  4. Double (French) stitch - suitable for most thin fabrics, but when sewing seams on products made from chiffon, crepe de chine and cambric, a narrow zigzag stitch is used instead of a straight stitch. Stitch-cut-turn-stitch - in any case, the seam pattern remains unchanged.

Having dealt with the processing options, you can choose the most suitable ones or combine them.

Now we move on to the sewing sequence.

  1. To make a bodice in the sequence: darts, middle seam (leave a seam fragment from below under the zipper), darts. If the selection is one-piece, then we duplicate and iron. We sweep the side seams. Ironing after each operation!
  2. Make a skirt: sweep soft folds along the markup, iron; process the pocket (turn the entrance and grind the burlap, from above - we DO NOT process it); side and middle seams. We put the zipper into the middle seam of the back. We iron after each operation!
  3. Fitting. Put on the bodice, aligning the points of convergence of the shelves and gird it with a linen elastic band. Mark where you will make the waist. Cut off the excess symmetrically. Try on a skirt. You can immediately sweep the bodice and skirt and try on.
  4. Process the ties.
  5. Process the neck-sides, the bottom of the sleeves.
  6. Connect the bodice and skirt.
  7. Try on the dress again and align the length of the dress from the floor.
  8. Work the hem into an open hem (one hem with pre-piping) or a closed hem (double hem).
