Cutting and sewing a batwing asymmetry dress

Cutting this dress is not difficult - the fabric is laid out on the table in one layer with the wrong side up (Fig. 2 - 3). The patterns of the shelves and backs are laid on it, the middle lines of which must be strictly parallel to the edges.

Both styles are cut in the same way, but if you cut from stretch with high stretch and grind the details with a knitted seam on an overlock, then allowances for the side and shoulder seams can be omitted.

But allowances for processing the bottom should be added in any case. The neckline and armhole are also in any case left without seam allowances.

If you are sewing a “cocoon” model from knitwear with a small or medium stretch and / or sewing seams with a narrow zigzag, then allowances of 1 cm should also be added to the side and shoulder cuts.

Sewing such a dress is also very simple.

We start with a zipper, which you will need if the dress is made of stretch with a small or medium stretch.

The zipper is processed on the back, if it is not hidden. A hidden zipper can be sewn by processing the shoulder seam, which passes into the sleeve.

It is convenient to process the neck and armhole with a transverse trim (photo 2, fig. 3).

In contrast to the well-known oblique inlay, for stretch, the inlay is cut across the fabric.

And only the bottom of the dress and sleeves remain. Traditionally, in stretch products, the bottom is processed into an open hem, that is, fold it once and use a cover stitch.

As you can see, everything is really very simple, but there is one trick ... it lies in the sewing sequence.

1. Finishing of the long shoulder seam with or without a zipper.
2. Sleeve bottom.
3. Side seam under the sleeve - do not forget to pull it off with an iron after processing.
4. Neck.
5. Short shoulder seam.
6. Armhole.
7. The bottom of the dress.
8. Second side seam.

Such a "tangled" sequence allows you to avoid the processing of cuts closed in a ring, that is, to avoid the main complexity of processing the neck, armholes and bottom.
