To avoid annoying cut errors, you can cut out a full-length bodice, and decide on the fitting which length of the bodice suits you.

In addition, the “skirt” of the down jacket can be cut both with a “tulip” and a “bell” - the pattern has two options for the side seam.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the soft folds. For the lower part (“skirt”) of the shelf, there are two options for folds - one large or two small.

There are also two collars - “stand” and “shawl”.

The consumption of raincoat fabric for sewing a down jacket "tulip" with a width of 140 - 150 cm will be from 270 to 300 cm, depending on the size. The consumption of insulation is the same as the consumption of the "top" fabric.

What to sew a down jacket "tulip" for winter

Attention! If you do not have enough experience in sewing down jackets, it is better to buy an already quilted raincoat fabric and a quilted lining.

Any raincoat fabric will do, but it is better to choose a membrane fabric.

The lining fabric can be ordinary, with a sliding surface. But, you can also use a woolen biker or faux fur on a soft knitted base or fleece.

A variety of heaters also allows you to unfold your imagination. It can be a synthetic winterizer, and silicone, sintepon, sintepuh, holofiber, holofan, thermofiber, fibertek ... The list can be continued, as each manufacturer comes up with new names for their products.

Almost any insulation of any thickness is suitable for this model, but warmer options are obtained from heaters consisting of hollow fibers. Manufacturers claim that all modern heaters are just like that.

Sewing a down jacket from scratch at home

I will not repeat the choice of size, I will only remind you of the basic principles - we compare the size of the pattern with a similar product and the thicker the insulation, the larger the size we choose.

Seam allowances for finished quilted fabric

Add a 1 cm allowance to most cuts.

The exception, as in other cases, is the cuts of the sprout (the neck of the back) and the neck, armholes, also the sleeve hem and the cut of the departure of the selection (picture 2). We do NOT add allowances to them.

On the bottom of the sleeve and "skirt" 5 - 7 cm.

Above the soft folds - allowances - "houses" so that they lie beautifully.

Attention! these allowances should be increased by 2 to 3 cm if you are quilting yourself and especially if the quilting stitches are close together. After quilting, the allowances are reduced to those indicated above.

How to cut a down jacket

Let's start with the layout of the "top" of raincoat fabric (picture 2) - there are no difficulties at this stage, the share direction is marked on the patterns.

Perhaps the most important point is to avoid middle seams on the details of the back and, if possible, on the details of the upper collar.

The “leaflet” pocket is already marked on the shelf, but if you do not have enough experience for sewing welt pockets, it is better to make a patch pocket according to the burlap pattern or a pocket in the side seam.

Open lining (picture 3) does not differ from the cutting of the “top”, except that the share direction is not necessary to maintain for the part of the sleeve and the bodice of the shelf.

The lining line is indicated on the pattern of the “skirt” of the shelf. For cutting, fold the pattern along this line. From the side of the side to the lining, add 2 - 2,5 cm.

If you are quilting the lining yourself, the allowances must also be increased before quilting. After quilting, the lining parts must be fitted with the above allowances.

The cutting of the insulation is carried out in a turn along the details of the cut, followed by a temporary or permanent connection of the insulation with the details of the "top" and lining.

How to sew a down jacket with your own hands

Sewing a down jacket essentially boils down to three steps:

1. Assembling the "top" of the jacket with quilting with insulation and processing of pockets.
2. Assembling the lining of the jacket with quilting with insulation.
3. The connection of the "top" and lining.
