Cut and sew winter overalls with your own hands at home

The most important point when sewing overalls is the following: the seat should be lower than in trousers, otherwise it will be rather difficult not only to sit down, but also to move.

In this model, the seat level is lowered by 3 cm compared to trousers.

Having bought a ready-made pattern, you are limited both by the limits of sizes and allowances for free fitting, and by the limits of conditionally standard proportions of the figure. Therefore, first we will consider the features of the growth fit of the pattern and only then we will move on to cutting.

Recall the measurements used for trousers: in addition to the waist and hips, measurements are taken of the seat height (Sun) and saddle length (Dsid).

For overalls, the saddle is best measured from the VII cervical vertebra through the groin to the jugular cavity.

Correction of the pattern, if necessary, is carried out at the level of the waist - we lay a fold to reduce it or make an insert to lengthen it.

It is also advisable to measure the length of the trousers from the waist to the floor level and adjust the length, also if necessary.

After the length correction is made, you can start cutting the fabric of the "top".

The seam allowances practically do not differ from the standard ones - 1 - 1,2 cm each, except for the sections of the sprout, neck, armholes and rounding - we do not add allowances to these sections, otherwise the length of these sections will change. Add 4 cm along the bottom of the trousers and sleeves. Pocket - up to 3 cm along the entrance cut, 2 cm along the valve sewing line, the rest - 1 - 1,2 cm.

The fabric of the "top" is folded in half face to face. On the 2 drawing the layout of small sizes is shown, and on 3 drawing - medium size.

The share direction is indicated on the patterns, but the backrest can be rotated up to 5 degrees.

It is better to cut out the collar after processing the shoulder sections, trying on and clarifying the length of the neck of the product.

When the details of the "top" are cut out, we proceed to cutting the insulation. We lay out the insulation in one layer and put on it the details of the "top" face up in the most economical way and without taking into account the shared direction.

Details of the "top" are basted on the insulation with large 7 - 8 cm oblique stitches. The basting line should be laid with an indent from the edge of 2 - 2,5 cm. After basting, the insulation is cut out.

Since the overalls will be without stitches, the insulation should protrude from under the “top” part by no more than 0,3 - 0,5 cm.

The cutting of the lining, as you probably guessed, is performed on the same details of the top without additional seam allowances. The share direction is taken into account very approximately, that is, we proceed from economic considerations.

Sewing a jumpsuit for an experienced tailor is not a difficult task.

We start by processing the “leaflet” or “frame” pocket on the shelf. The marking is on the pattern.

After processing the welt pocket, we collect the “top”, we separately assemble the sleeve. Lining is assembled separately.

Please note that when assembling the “top”, it is more convenient to start with processing the middle seams of the shelf and back, that is, the zipper and the bar covering it are sewn.

When the overalls are assembled, the sleeve, hood and collar can be tried on, having previously “fastened” the lining to the overalls. It is rather difficult to try on without a lining, since the insulation does not glide enough.

On the fitting, in addition to clarifying the volume, you can cut the armhole and outline three control points for sewing in the sleeve.

After trying on, we cut out and process the collar. We finish the overalls in accordance with the technology of individual tailoring.
