3. Description of the style of a cut-off sundress with a pleated skirt

A simple multi-variant model of a cut-off sundress with a flared skirt and soft folds on the PP and RF.

On the patterns, the options for the neck are “square” (as in the photo) and “mysik” (triangular neckline).

The back of the bodice also has a back closure option, as in a similar sundress model

Patterns of a detachable sundress with pleats on a skirt for winter and summer photo 2On the bodice there is a length correction area. It is not only for trying on, but also for a variant of the style with a shortened bodice.

For the option with a shortened bodice, a pocket with an elongated (lowered) entry line is provided.

The folds also have two length options, but their length is not determined by the length of the bodice and remains at the discretion of the couturier.

4. What to sew a simple sundress for winter and summer

This model has a fairly wide skirt, so for both winter and summer, you should choose the thinnest fabrics.

A warm option is thin suiting fabrics with the addition of wool and woolen dress fabrics.

For summer - thin denim, chintz, poplin and linen.

The width is preferably 150 cm. With this width, the cost for a sundress with a double bodice will be from 270 to 360 cm.

6. How to cut a cut-off sundress with pleats on a skirt according to a finished pattern

Before cutting, we select the pocket style option, for which we determine the approximate length of the bodice and the length of the skirt.

Seam allowances - 1 cm, with the exception of the waist section of the skirt, armholes and necklines - we do not add allowances to them or add a minimum of 0,3 - 0,5 cm.

How to cut a sundress with pleats on a cut-off skirt small sizes pic 2At the bottom of the bodice for fitting, you will need a large allowance of 3-4 cm, so it is important to measure the bodice before cutting and compare its length with the measurements Dpt (length of the shelf to the waist) and Dst (length of the back to the waist). We add an allowance for fitting, based on the difference in measurements for the figure and for the bodice.

The same can be said about the allowance on the bottom of the skirt. After measuring its length and comparing it with the desired one, keep in mind that it will take 3,5 - 4 cm for the hem.

For example, the length of the bodice will remain unchanged and the pocket is “normal”, we cut a small size (picture 2).

The fabric is folded in half and the parts are stacked taking into account the shared direction.

Pay attention to the fact that the middle seam of the back is laid with an uneven indent from the edge, this is necessary so that the seam does not tighten. Indent for the bevel of the seam 2 - 3 cm.

The layout of large sizes is somewhat more complicated (picture 3), since the PP skirt pattern does not fit in half the width of the fabric. Exit in cutting PP along the oblique thread.

The PP skirt is cut out first.

When cutting the bodice and pocket details, it is very important not to make a mistake how many details you need.

To save money, barrels of the lower bodice can also be cut out on an oblique thread.

7. How to sew a sundress with a pleated skirt

The most difficult element of a sundress is the folds.
How to process folds is described in detail on the example of a dress - a trapeze.

The sequence for sewing a sundress is as follows:

  1. Process the folds and darts of the back, iron.
  2. Process pockets: turn the entrance to the pocket, lay the finishing line, sew and overcast the burlap valance, fasten the pocket and iron.
  3. Collect the top bodice, assemble the bottom bodice, having previously decided where the zipper will be - in the middle seam of the back or in the left side seam. In any case, the side seams are folded over so that the armholes can be finished later. Collect skirt.
  4. Fitting. Put both bodices on the figure, gird with a linen elastic band, outline the length of the bodice (at the waist or above). Trim armholes and neckline if necessary. Baste the skirt and try it on again.
  5. Process the neckline and armholes, stitch and iron the side seams.
  6. Connect the bodice and skirt, sew a zipper.
  7. Finish the hem into an open or closed hem (single or double hem).
