How to calculate fabric consumption for different sizes

Fabric consumption, if the length is kept, with a width of 140 cm for the "skirt-pants" model without pleats for sizes 42-52 - from 190 to 220 cm.

For sizes 52 - 62 "skirt pants" without folds - 220 cm, that is two full lengths plus hem.

For the model "pleated culotte skirt» Consumption increases significantly.

So for sizes 42-52 it will be 230 cm, but in sizes for full flow from 320 to 380 cm. This is also while maintaining the length and width of 140 cm.

Therefore, especially for the model with a fold, fabrics with a width of 150 cm are recommended, since with this width you can significantly reduce consumption. In addition, before buying a fabric, it is very important to decide on the choice of the length of the product and perform a preliminary layout of the patterns (drawings 2 - 5).

Skirt-trousers with and without pleats are suitable for all types of figures, for any fullness and growth. Warehouses allow you to cut a skirt-trousers from thin translucent fabrics.

What to sew a skirt pants

How to cut a skirt pants

We start cutting, as usual, after we have determined the length of the product (Di or Du - the length of the skirt), measuring it along the side of the figure down from the waist.

The fabric is folded in half facing inward, the edges are aligned and parallel to the edge of the cutting table. This rule applies in most cases, and cutting culottes is no exception.

Finished patterns are laid on the fabric in the most economical way, taking into account the shared direction and seam allowances. This is also a general cutting rule, which requires clarification for a specific case.

The shared thread (shared direction) is marked in patterns of trouser skirts without warehouses with a dotted line with pointers and signed. The fractional direction for the pleated culottes is the same as the center line warehouses, which is also marked on the drawings.

How to observe the correct direction of the shared thread in detail?
The grain thread should be parallel to the edges.

Seam allowances for these patterns

Seam allowances are added to all cuts except the waist. At the waist, we DO NOT add an allowance for the seams, but we make a small 0,5 cm “house” above the tucks, so that when ironing, the tuck must fall under the seam of the belt.

We add 1 cm along the side and step sections, 2,5 - 3 cm along the bottom, and along the sections of the bow and seat, the allowance expands to the top. That is, it is uneven: on a rounding that goes under the legs 1 cm, and on a straight line reaching the waist, it increases to 3 cm.

Such an expanding allowance will allow not only to perform a very precise fit to the figure, but also to adjust the volume of the product if a person recovers or loses weight.

If you plan to make a fastener like a trouser, then bow allowance must be appropriate.

Layout of patterns for different models "skirt pants"

1. On the 2 drawing Jack layout is suitable for sizes 42-50 pleated culottes.
   The fabric is folded in half lengthwise, that is, the fold is parallel to the edges.
2. For full sizes groups 52-62 the same model of trouser skirt economical layout shown in figure 3.
3. Figure 4 - skirt-pants with folds in sizes 42 - 52. Also a "jack", but the fabric is folded in half across.
4. And in large sizes for full (52-62) layout of culottes with warehouses is shown in Figure 5, the fabric is also folded across, that is, the fold is perpendicular to the edges.

How to sew a do-it-yourself trouser skirt step by step

1. Sewing a "skirt pants" model is practically the same as sewing ordinary women's trousers.
2. We start with grinding the tucks and tucking the warehouses, then with the WTO - wet-heat treatment - we iron the darts and the tucked warehouse, if any, and also slightly pull the seam of the seat.

5. There is one "but" here. Traditional trouser side seam pockets or side seam pockets will require closures similar to trousers or back pockets. In other words, you should not combine a pocket and a fastener in the side seam. Behind - the load on the seam of the seat is quite large, so the wear of the "lightning" will increase and you will have to change it more often.

7. When the pockets are ready, you can sew and iron the side seams and complete the fastener. As mentioned above, the fastener can be similar to a trouser (not recommended for beginners) or located in the side seam. The seam of the seat is not excluded if the size is not more than 46th.
