How to cut and sew this sundress with your own hands

Let's start by clarifying the question of why a double shelf is needed.

There are few options for processing the sides of the shelf of such a dressing gown: edging, selection and double shelf.

When should you choose edging? This type of processing is suitable for a dressing gown sundress made of a fairly dense fabric and with a single shelf. The edging can be made both from the main fabric and from the companion fabric.

When should you choose a selection? The pick-up is suitable for products made of fairly dense fabric that does not shine through and requires a relatively “hard” pick-up. It is worth noting that this type of processing requires some sewing experience. It will be difficult for a home couturier to cope with such processing for a beginner learning to cut and sew.

When should you choose a double shelf? Processing the side with a second shelf is well suited for products made of fairly thin and translucent fabrics. The double shelf does not require duplication of parts and greatly simplifies the process of cutting and sewing.

Below we will consider this option.

But now about the straps. The best way out is to buy ready-made straps, which are sold in fabric and accessories stores. If you are going to cut them, then the optimal width in cutting will be 3,5 - 4 cm, and the length is 50 - 55 cm.

Determine the exact length of the straps and the location of the attachment point on the back during the fitting.

But you can sew them on your own from the same fabric as the dressing gown.

The belt is also a strip of fabric. Width - optional, but optimal for a narrow functional belt in the cut will be 6 - 6,5 cm. Length up to 60 - 70 cm.

Cutting is performed, observing the direction of the shared thread (Fig. 1 - 2) and positioning parts in the most economical way.

The seam allowances are as follows: lateral and middle backs - 1 - 1,2 cm, along the bottom and upper cut of the back - 2,5 - 3 cm, armhole and facing edge cut - remains without allowance.

How to sew a dressing gown sundress step by step for beginners

1. Sew a dart on the "top" shelf and baste a soft crease instead of a dart on the "bottom" shelf. Sew and overcast the middle back seam. Iron the darts, folds and iron the middle seam.
2. Finish the straps. The easiest way: overcast the workpiece on one side, bend it twice and stitch it off, as is done in trousers.
3. Finish the belt. Each part of the belt is folded in half lengthwise, turned, turned inside out and ironed.
4. Then grind the bead. To do this, both shelves must be folded face to face, between them lay the finished strap and belt on the ledges for the straps and for the belt. Fasten the strap and belt with oblique stitches on the “top” shelf.
5. Having turned the armhole of the shelf, the side and the bottom of the shelf, we bend the free sections of the turning seam towards the shelf-selection and adjust them on it, stepping back from the seam up to 2 millimeters.
6. It remains only to sweep the board, iron it and lay the finishing line.
7. Overcast the upper cut of the back and bend it once or do not overcast it and bend it twice. We iron and lay a line or hem the cut by hand.
8. Sample is coming. Before it, we only have to sweep the side seams.
9. Please note that when trying on, we not only specify the volume of the bathrobe. We need to outline, based on the shape of the neck and shoulders, the position of the straps on the back, and then the hole in the right side seam for threading the belt. The length of the straps and the position of the opening are interconnected.
10. After trying on, it remains only to stitch, overcast and iron the side seams, fasten the straps on the back and process the rest of the bottom.
