How to cut a dress-vest or dress-robe for beginners

Cutting a dress-vest and a bathrobe has only one feature - the selection is better to make one-piece. This will not only save time on processing the edge of the bead, but also improve the quality of the product.

Tailoring the collar separately is worth it only if you want to see a lapel of a different color. But even then, the lower part of the selection should be one-piece.

So, in order to cut a one-piece selection, butt-glue the part of the shelf and the selection (picture 2) or lay them end-to-end when cutting.

The detail of the shelf with a one-piece selection turns out to be very wide, so it is better to fold the fabric for cutting the vest across.

The facing of the neck and armholes of the back is cut out according to the pattern of the back and along the line of facing.

Belt - a strip of fabric that can be cut at the edges (picture 2).

Width of the belt in cutting = width of the belt in finished form + 2 cm

Belt length = 150 cm.

For a patch pocket, the allowance at the entrance to the pocket is 2 - 2,5 cm and for the rest of the cuts 1,5 cm.

Allowances for seams and notches, taking into account the features when cutting

The seam allowances for this vest or robe are the same as for the sheath dress.

Add 1 - 1,2 cm along the middle seam, side and shoulder seams.

No allowances are added along the armholes and the neckline, as well as along the departure cut of the pick and turn.

On the bottom - 2,5 - 3 cm for a hem with an open cut (single) or a hem with a closed cut (double hem).

We make notches at the waist - to simplify the assembly of the product, along a half-skid - to perform a fitting and additional ones for a pocket in the side seam, if one is planned.

Let me remind you that a half-skid is the middle line of the product, passing in front of the middle line of the figure from the jugular cavity down through the navel.

The marking of the pocket in the side seam is carried out based on the position of the waist and hips. We retreat from the waist down 5 - 7 cm.

Patch pockets have the same guidelines - waist and hip lines, but you can also mark their location on the fitting.

To increase the wear resistance of the patch pocket, you can use a dart by placing the top point, which will be closer to the thumb when worn, on the dart.

For the same purpose, a patch pocket can be adjusted, contrary to the rules, on a shelf and a hem. In addition, the "through" method of attaching the pocket will allow you to secure the pick-up with the help of a pocket.

How to sew a vest dress or dress robe with your own hands step by step

With the complete identity of the cut of the vest and the dressing gown, the sewing of these products may differ slightly.

When sewing a dressing gown, it is possible to exclude duplication of the selection and facing for the back, while when sewing a vest, duplication is very desirable.

On the 2 drawing duplication areas are shaded. Doublerin or interlining is cut out according to the patterns of the selection and facing without seam allowances.

The presence or absence of darts is at the discretion of the couturier.

1. After cutting, we start by grinding and ironing the tucks, duplicating, ironing the band and the belt, if the belt is provided.
2. We overcast the side cuts, cuts of the middle seam and the departure cut of the pick. We overcast the cut of the entrance in the blanks of patch pockets and / or cuts of burlap.
3. We sew the burlap of pockets to the side cuts, leaving 1 - 1,2 cm unsewn at the top and bottom.
4. We grind and iron the side seams, and we sweep and iron the shoulder seams.
5. Temporarily fasten the hem with oblique stitches to make it convenient to try on.
6. We iron patch pockets on the template.
7. We sew and turn out the belt. If the model has a belt, then it is better that it be ready for fitting.
8. At the fitting, we specify the fit and, if necessary, make adjustments. The adjustments made should be reflected on the turning pattern.
9. We sew the facings along the side seam to the collar.
10. We turn the armhole.
11. We grind the shoulder seams of the vest and facings, iron them.
12. We grind and iron the middle seam of the facing.
13. We turn the neck.
14. Set up patch pockets.
15. We fix the flying sections of the selection with hidden stitches. You can also attach the pickup pointwise to the darts, if any. In large sizes, it is better to distribute the freeness of the drop-off cut of the selection in the area of ​​the tuck for the chest on both sides of the tuck.
