Features of cutting a godet dress according to a finished pattern with your own hands

One of the main difficulties in sewing this dress is the vertical proportions of the customer's figure, which are different from the pattern.

Therefore, before sewing, when the size of the pattern is selected and the patterns are completely ready, you need to compare the measurements Ds (length of the back to the waist) and Dpt (length of the shelf to the waist) with the dimensions of the patterns.

If correction is needed, cut the pattern horizontally at the waist and add a strip of paper (for tall ones) or lay the fold at waist level, shortening the “bodice” (for short ones).

For a slight correction of the overall length of the dress, you can not only lengthen it by adding length along the bottom, but also cut / fold in the area between the expansion and the level of the hips.

Please note that the set of patterns includes three stand-up collars that are different in height. The more elastic the fabric, the higher the stand can be, and vice versa, the stiffer, the lower the stand.

A very important point in cutting: the collar is cut out after fitting. In extreme cases, if there is only one fitting, you can cut out a doubler collar on it or, if the fabric still remains, we cut out only the lower collar with a margin of length in order to use it on the fitting to correct the shape.

When the pattern is corrected, you can start cutting (picture 2).

Seam allowances - 1 - 1,2 cm - along all "vertical" and shoulder sections, as well as along the collar sections and along the seam sections of the shuttlecock. We do not add allowances along the armhole and neckline, roundness and cuts of the semicircles of the shuttlecock. On the bottom - no more than 1,5 - 2 cm.

Regarding the pocket burlap - it can be applied end-to-end to the top of the barrel, as shown in 2 drawing or cut separately with a 1 cm seam allowance, and do not add an allowance at the entrance to the pocket.

The share direction is indicated on the pattern drawing, but it is worth mentioning the collar separately. It is good if the upper and lower collars are cut in different share directions.

It is desirable for the upper collar not to have a middle seam, so it is laid with a middle cut on the fold of the fabric. That is why it is important to know the exact dimensions of the collar, based on the size of the neck. As you understand, such accuracy is possible only if the shoulder seams are processed and carefully ironed (or ironed).

We make the lower collar with a seam, which allows you to make a margin of length and cut it out for the first fitting. It is cut out "arbitrarily along the oblique", that is, the middle seam should not fall on either the lobar or the transverse thread.

The shuttlecock should also not be cut out for fitting, as the sleeve can be narrowed.

Sewing sequence for a year dress with a stand-up collar and pockets

1. Overstitch the entrance to the pocket of the lower part of the barrel with a piece of burlap, using it as a normal facing. The cut of the entrance to the pocket on the burlap can be pre-duplicated so that it does not stretch in the sock.
2. Stitch and overcast (or edge) the cut of the burlap - to the end towards the side seam and to the waist along the relief, be sure to put a notch at the waist. The notch length is 0,9 - 1 cm. Without a notch, it will not be possible to cleanly process the relief.
3. To complete the pocket look, place bartacks at the ends of the pocket opening. Please note that the bartacks should not fall under the side seam and relief, otherwise the seams will tear from the load on the pocket.
4. Next, stitch and iron the reliefs and shoulder seams, stitch and iron the middle back seam.
5. Sweep and iron the side seams, tack the zipper to the left seam.
6. Sweep and iron the seam of the sleeve.
7. Duplicate the lower collar, stitch and iron its seam. Don't pry yet.
8. Sample first. Check the fit, cut the armhole and neck to fit. Sweep in collar and sleeves. The sleeves of this design can be stitched in without stitching, but in this case, stitching is only necessary to clarify the width of the sleeve.
9. After fitting, the final processing of the seams follows, the collar and sleeves are processed separately. Then, the collar and sleeves are sewn in and the stitching seams should also be overcast.
10. 10. Before processing the bottom, the hem of the dress should be aligned and it is better to do this on the figure. Each type of fabric will give its deformation. The bottom is processed into a hem with an open cut, that is, the cut should be overcast or edged and folded over once.
