This is one of the simplest variations on the theme of year dresses, but with the seeming simplicity of the style, this dress pattern is not suitable for beginner couturier, especially since the year design cannot be recommended for sewing the first or second dress.

The main difficulty in cutting and sewing this dress is to correct the length of the product, which cannot be done in the usual way.

You will have to face the need to accurately measure the length of the product, taking into account the height of the heel.

The task of selecting fabric for a mermaid dress is also not too simple.

Both stable and highly extensible fabrics will not work.

The ideal fabric will be dense fabrics that are slightly stretchable along the transverse thread, which are stable in the lobar direction.

In other words, the fabric should stretch a little across and not stretch at all along.

The set of patterns includes (Fig. 1) patterns for the middle and side parts of the back, as well as patterns for the middle and side parts of the shelf.

On each pattern, the share direction of the thread is marked.

The fabric consumption will be up to 3,5 meters with a fabric width of 1,4 cm and, of course, while maintaining the original length of the product during the cutting process.

How to cut a year dress

When the size of the dress is chosen and the patterns are printed, assembled and cut, they should be adjusted to length.

Please note: the size of the pattern is the size of the bodice and the size of the hips, which we choose by comparing the “volumes” of the pattern with the size of our favorite clothes. In this case, for comparison, we need a tight-fitting dress.

And the length that we need to adjust is the length of the skirt of this dress, measured from the waist to the bottom according to the figure of the customer. It is very important to measure the length of the skirt (Du) along the side seam of the garment worn on the figure.

In this case, the figure should be tied with a thin belt, such as a linen gum. In this case, the position of the waist will be securely fixed and the likelihood of errors in taking measurements is minimized.

Another important point in taking skirt measurements: the customer must be in the shoes in which she will wear this dress. That is, we measure Du along the side seam, taking into account the height of the heel to the floor.

And immediately after Du we take measurements from the floor to the level of the knee - Dk. The level of the knee in this product, as in tight trousers, should be directly above the kneecap.

We write down both measurements and take the same Du and Dk from the finished patterns.

Compare both pairs of measurements. If you need to make the skirt shorter, you can bend the horizontal fold on the patterns in the length correction area, which is marked with hatching on all patterns. But it is better to lengthen the pattern by extending the inclined lines of the “bell” of the skirt, just as you add an allowance for the bottom hem.

In other words, the knee line cannot be lowered, but you can raise it.

Cutting the mermaid dress is quite simple (Fig. 2).

The fabric is folded in half face inward, the edges are aligned and the cut is parallel to the edge of the table.

Details of the cut are laid taking into account the shared direction, as far as possible, economically.

Seam allowances 1 cm. Exceptions are the neck, sprout (back neck) and armholes - they are cut out without allowances. On the bottom, add 2,3 - 3 cm, excluding elongation under the heel.

As you can see, the lunges are very large, therefore, for economic reasons, the dress can be cut with a cut-off at the waist.

In addition to the main details of the cut, you will have to cut out the facings.

We cut out the facings from dublerin according to the same patterns or according to the product without seam allowances (Fig. 3).

Then, we stick the dubbing on the remnants of the fabric and add allowances in the places where the facings are sewn.

Of course, neckline, if desired, can be changed and add a deep neckline at the back.

If the neckline is not needed, you can make a cutout in the shape of a heart along the middle seam of the back.

How to sew a year dress with your own hands according to a pattern

The sewing sequence also looks straightforward.

We start with the “assembly” of the shelves and back for fitting - we sweep and slightly iron the relief seams. The most daring can grind reliefs. But the middle seam of the back, side and shoulder seams must be swept and ironed. We fasten the zipper to the middle seam of the back.

On the fitting, in addition to clarifying the degree of fit, we cut the armholes and clarify the outlines of the neck.
