Only raincoat fabrics with special windproof properties are suitable for sewing. There are no special requirements for the lining fabric, except for slip. As a warming pad, you can use a synthetic winterizer, holofiber or alpolux.

How to cut and sew a down jacket case at home

The technology of cutting and sewing a down jacket of this model is in many ways similar to sewing trapeze down jacket...

Let me remind you that the sequence of operations for individual tailoring of a “down jacket” at home is somewhat different from the sequence of mass sewing.

We start by cutting the fabric of the “top”, having previously decided on the length of the product, comparing your favorite down jacket with patterns.

Attention! The length of the down jacket, and especially the length of the sleeve, depends both on the height of the shoulder pad and on the thickness of the insulating pad. The size is also selected taking into account the thickness of the insulation.

Seam allowances, one might say, are not standard, since they should take into account the deformation of parts after stitching. The larger the area of ​​the part and the denser the stitch, the more deformation is possible. Of course, for more experienced couturiers, the deformation from the stitch will be less.

It is better to proceed from the fact that after quilting you will base (cut out more accurately) every detail. So, side, shoulder, embossed cuts, half-skid (the middle line of the shelf and the cut of the zipper), the front and elbow cuts of the sleeve, cuts of the hood, cuts of the collar - will require an allowance of 2 - 3 cm. Sleeve sleeves, armholes, neck and shoot - 2 cm On the bottom of the sleeve - 5 - 6 cm. On the bottom of the product, if any drawstrings are not provided, add 5 - 8 cm, if stitched drawstrings are provided, then 1,5 - 2 cm is enough, and if the drawstrings are one-piece with a shelf - back, then the allowance should be increased to 10 - 12 cm.

I repeat, but if the stitch is not too tight and you have enough experience, then the allowances can be closer to the usual.

Now about cutting the "top".

The fabric, as usual, is folded in half face inward, the edges are aligned and the parts fit in the most economical way (figures 2 и 3).

On the 2 drawing the layout for small sizes is shown, on 3 drawing - for the big ones.

After cutting the “top”, you can proceed to cutting the insulation, which is cut out according to the details of the “top”. At the same time, the insulation should protrude beyond the details of the "top" by 1,5 - 2,5 cm.

Having finished cutting the insulation, you should connect the details of the top and insulation in any temporary way. These can be tailor's pins or large (7 - 10 cm) bias stitches. The line of tattoos or basting should be 3-5 cm from the edge.

After that, you can mark and stitch and base the details of the top according to the same patterns, leaving technological allowances for the seams.

According to the adjusted details of the “top”, the lining is also cut out with allowances of 1,5 - 2,5 cm, and already according to the details of the lining, we cut out the insulation for the lining, again adding allowances for lining and stitching.

After stitching the lining, we sew it along the blanks of the “top”, without adding allowances, since the necessary allowances for the seams have already been added to the blanks of the “top”.

Further, it is a matter of technique - we collect the “top” and the lining separately, we connect them in the same way as in a regular jacket.
