How to cut a fur coat

Fur coat classic semi-raglan 3Cutting fur products is not a complicated operation, but even the slightest deviation from the cutting technology can irreparably damage the product.

The cutting rules for natural and artificial fur are similar:

  1. The direction of the pile is down and the same for the back, front and sleeves, for the collars - the pile is directed towards the departure of the collar.
  2. Patterns are made in a spread and cutting is also carried out in a spread (picture 2).
  3. Only the core or base of the fur is cut, and the pile must remain intact.
  4. If cutting is performed from natural fur, then after pre-cutting processing, “plates” are assembled from the skins according to ready-made patterns, taking into account the middle lines, and then the “plates” are cut.

Now for the seam allowances

Fur coat classic semi-raglan 4If you collect a fur coat on a furrier machine, then allowances are needed only along the bottom of the fur coat and the bottom of the sleeves. The pick-up, of course, is also necessary (this is not an allowance, but I still mention it just in case).

If you sew a faux fur coat on a conventional machine, then the allowances are the same as when sewing other outerwear, such as a coat.

Let me remind you of the standard allowances for outerwear:

  1. side, shoulder, "vertical" seams of the sleeve, departure and middle seam of the collar - 1 - 1,5 cm each;
  2. the bottom of the fur coat and sleeves - 4 cm.

Pickup width (even though it's not an allowance, and a one-piece with a shelf or a separate part, but it is shown in the figures) will be 7 - 9 cm.

Therefore, if you cut from expensive fur and you have the remnants of leather or drape, then the hem and lower collar can be cut out of this material.

In any case, the collar stand, even if it makes no sense to save, should not be cut out of fur.Fur coat classic semi-raglan 5

The lining can be cut according to both fur details and patterns. The second option is more convenient.

Difficulty can arise only for beginner tailors with cutting out the middle part of the shelf.

Let's try to sort this question out.picture 3).

If you cut the lining according to the patterns, bend and pin the collar with pins, circle the part around the neck, shoulder, relief and bottom. There will be one cut - a cut of the connection with the selection. Step back from the edge of the pick that you folded and pinned, double the seam allowance and draw a line parallel to this cut.

If you cut the lining according to the patterns, then measure the width of the selection on it and bend the pattern along the intended line. When cutting out, add a double allowance along the fold.

How are youFur coat classic semi-raglan 6You guessed it, the seam allowances of the lining are the same as the seam allowances of the “top” (picture 4) and cut the lining, folding the fabric in half. True, the bottom allowance can be increased to 6 - 7 cm.

For the burlap of the pocket, we cut out a rectangle 17 by 22. The final shape of the burlap can be given in the process of making pockets or immediately outline the entrance and, with a hand, trace the outline.

The insulating lining is cut along the details of the lining.

Sewing such a fur coat is very simple: we assemble the fur “top”, assemble and quilt the lining, turn the collar and connect it to the stand, process the sleeves, try on and complete the processing of armholes, neckline, fasteners and bottom.
