3. Description of the design of the style of this raglan
A very simple laconic cut of this model allows you to choose fabrics of various thicknesses and almost any stretch.
The set includes a simple hood-collar.
Turtleneck or sweatshirt? Choosing thin knitwear and a smaller size, we get a product close to a turtleneck. Choosing a thick footer and a larger size, we get a product that looks more like a sweatshirt.
4. From what fabric to sew a raglan turtleneck sweatshirt for winter and summer, what will be the consumption
For a turtleneck, thin knitted fabrics are suitable, both dresses with a width of 140 cm, and a cooler fabric with a width of 180 cm or more.
Is it possible to use loose knitwear that imitates hand knitting? Yes, but not too thick and loose. A turtleneck made of jersey like “noodles” will look good.
Fit jersey, footer and fleece.
Fabric consumption depends on the choice of hood or collar, as well as on the width of the fabric.
With a width of 150 cm, if cut with a double hood, the consumption will be from 160 to 170 cm
With a width of 180 cm, the consumption for a product with a double hood will be from 110 to 130 cm.
For an accurate calculation, select a size (smaller for a turtleneck, larger for a sweatshirt) and lay out the patterns on a conditional fabric.
When performing a preliminary layout, we take into account whether the back will be with a seam or one-piece and whether the hood will be double (drawings 2 и 3).

6. How to cut a sweatshirt or turtleneck with raglan sleeves in large and small sizes according to ready-made patterns
Before cutting, we choose a style option - a turtleneck or a sweatshirt, with a hood or with a collar.
We proceed from the fact that the size figure \u2d half the circumference of the chest and for a turtleneck we need an increase in chest (Pg) 4 - 6 cm, and for a sweatshirt 10 - XNUMX cm.
We chose the size - we check the length of the product along the back and the length of the sleeve from the side point of the neck.
We decide whether we need cuffs or we will process the bottom and sleeve into a hem.
Decided? Based on this, we adjust the length of the product and the sleeve on the pattern.
Please note that the neck on the pattern is “small”. If there is a need, then it is easy to increase such a neck - we cut off 1 - 2 cm in a circle, but not on a pattern, but already on a fitting!
One last reminder: no seam allowances are needed if the length of the pattern, taking into account the processing of the bottom, has already been edited.
When all the nuances are thought out, we proceed to cutting. After all, you did a preliminary layout and decided whether the back would be with or without a seam?
Consider picture 2. It shows the double hooded (left) and collared (right) layout options. As you can see, the back is here with a middle seam. For figures with a large lumbar deflection, this is good - you can make a small notch. If the fabric or seams are not too elastic, then you can sew a zipper. So it's a good option.
How to cut a collar?
As mentioned above, this is a rectangle, the dimensions of which in the cutting are as follows:
Collar length \u1d Neck length of the product in finished form minus 3 to XNUMX cm.
Collar Width = 2 Finished Width.
Please note that it is better to cut the collar after assembling the sweatshirt in order to accurately determine the length of the neck.
Now consider a very interesting layout option with a double hood and without a middle seam on the back (picture 3).
This cutting option is well suited for both thin and fairly loose fabrics.
Cutting is carried out in two stages - a back-shelf and a hood-sleeve.
For the back-shelf, the fabric is folded so that two folds are obtained along the width of the back and along the width of the shelf (diagram in a bubble).
After cutting out, the fabric is folded already along the width of the sleeve and hood, one fold along the line of the frame of the face.
7. How to sew a sweatshirt or turtleneck at home - sewing sequence
We carry out stitching on an overlock with a knitted seam Fast and reliable. Do not confuse knit and overcast seam!
См. также how to set up overlock
- We grind the middle seam of the back, the side seams and the sleeve with a knitted seam. We iron the seams.
- We sew the sleeve, distributing it evenly along the armhole.
- You can try on and, if necessary, increase the neckline by cutting “in a circle” 1 - 3 cm.
- Iron along the collar and sew into the neckline. It can be just a knitted seam. You can zigzag and “cover the seam” with an oblique trim. The hood is also processed simply: medium seams, face cut, ironed and turned inside out.
- Bottom sleeves and products. Iron.
