The approximate consumption of fabric for a trapeze dress with a fabric of 140 - 150 cm, depending on the size, will be from 190 to 270 cm.

For sewing, you can use stable or slightly stretchy fabrics of the dress range. Linen, dress wool, jeans, chintz, poplin or tight stretch with low stretch are ideal.

When choosing a fabric, please note that the material must hold the fold.

How to cut a trapezoid dress with a relief pleat and sew it step by step

Pattern of a dress-trapeze "warehouse from a relief" 40-64 pic1As usual, I'll start with the most frequently asked questions.

Does this dress need a zipper?

Yes, lightning is needed here. It is better to sew a braid-zipper to the middle seam.

Patterns for piping of an A-line dress with a relief pleatHow to determine where the front and back of the sleeve?

The tuck in this design is located on the side of the elbow and closer to the back seam.

How to cut a trim?

The easiest way (this is the method that I have been using for more than 20 years) involves cutting out the facing from the doubler according to the pattern of the product or according to the product itself, but in any case, without taking into account seam allowances (picture 2).

Seam allowances when cutting according to the pattern of a dress with pleatsThen, the blanks are glued to the fabric and cut them out a second time with seam allowances. Allowances are added only where the facing fragments will be grinded. In this case, allowances are added along the middle seam of the back and along the shoulder seams (they are also the side seams of the stand).

This method is also convenient in that if there is a shortage of fabric, dublerin blanks can be cut into smaller pieces. Allowances are added when re-cutting again only in places where these fragments will be grinded.

How to handle a crease in a dress?

The warehouse is first marked and swept, then ironed. The mark remains until the product is ready. It is important that the fitting of the dress takes place with swept warehouses.

Seam allowances for cutting pleated dresses

(picture 3)

  1. We do not add allowances along the cuts of the neck, armholes and sleeves.
  2. We add 1-1,2 cm along the side and shoulder seams, as well as along the middle seam of the back and along the cuts of the half-reliefs.
  3. On the bottom - 3 cm.
  4. Seam allowances for folds - arbitrary "houses" above the level of the fold, which is marked on the pattern.
  5. That is, when cutting, you mark the “lower border” of the fold and allowance on the fabric. The resulting pentagon should be swept out for fitting.
  6. Sewing a dress with folds of reliefs is not difficult - the sequence is the same as the usual "trapeze".
