Fabric for this dress and its consumption

The approximate consumption of checkered fabric for a dress with a width of 140 cm, depending on the size, will be from 180 cm for small sizes and more than 300 for a size of 64 cm. Such a large consumption is due to the need to combine cells. The larger the cell, the more difficult it is to combine and the greater the expense.

When typing fabric, one should also take into account the fact that asymmetrical fabrics are quite common - the pattern at the edges does not match. If the cell is rectangular and symmetrical, then this fact should be taken into account when buying fabric.

Of course, when cutting, you can choose a different length of the dress (on the bottom of a different size) and change the width of the frill.

Dress tartans are suitable for sewing. If you choose a plaid fabric with a printed pattern, be prepared for the fact that it will be more difficult to combine it.

How to cut a trapeze dress "Cage"

Plaid pattern cutting requires experience in cutting, so this model is not recommended for beginners to learn how to sew clothes at home.

The sewing of this dress is similar to the cut and sewing of dresses of similar styles, but in addition to matching the cage along the middle seam of the back and side seams, it has a number of other features.

Features of cutting for fabric in a cage

1. As for cutting, in the beginning it is worth paying attention to the laying of the fabric. That is, when folding the fabric in half face to face, it is important that the horizontal stripes match. If a fabric with symmetrical square cells (there are fabrics with rectangular cells), it is desirable to combine vertical stripes so that the halves of the back are symmetrical, while the edges may not match.
2. It is also important to imagine the appearance of the shelf after cutting - whether the vertical strip will coincide with the half-slide also depends on the symmetry of the cage. If the cage is symmetrical, then the half-skid should run in the middle of one of the lanes. If it is asymmetric, then it is desirable to place a half-skid with the middle of the brightest vertical stripe.
3. Let me remind you that the semi-skid is the middle line of the shelf.
4. An approximate layout is shown in 3 drawing. Left is small, right is large.
5. To maintain the symmetry of the shelves and the back, they should be cut out in two stages: first, carefully aligning the cells, we cut out the back. Then, after checking the accuracy of combining the cells, we cut out the shelf. For the sleeve, we also check the alignment. Some cutters cut each part separately to achieve the most accurate alignment, that is, first the left half of the back from the top layer of fabric, then the right half, laying the left on the bottom layer of fabric. And the same with the sleeve.
6. Please note that the waist and hip lines of the shelf and back should be located in the same places on the strip.
   For example, the in figure 3, waist lines are located clearly in the middle of the strip. Otherwise, alignment along the side seams will be impossible.
7. Another important point. The oblique thread when cutting a product made of checkered fabrics must be observed very clearly. In order not to be mistaken, draw a "oblique" direction strictly through the centers of the cells, if they are symmetrical. If the cells are not symmetrical, then the direction may be approximately oblique.
8. The cuff, which is a rectangle, can be cut out both along the oblique and along the lobar or along the transverse thread (Fig. 3).
   Cuff length \u3d Op + XNUMX cm, where Op is the circumference of the shoulder.
   Cuff width = 2 finished cuff width + 2 cm.

How to cut a frill

1. Recommended frill width 20 - 22 cm without seam allowances. Of course, if you want to get a frill width close to the one in the photo.
2. The length of the frill should be proportional to the length of the bottom line of the dress. For medium gathering frills,

4. Heavily gathered frill length = two lengths of the bottom of the dress + 2 cm per seam for each connecting seam
5. To cut the frill, you will also need an oblique line through the centers of the cage, if the cage is symmetrical, this will allow you to easily and accurately dock the frill fragments.
6. Now about economical cutting.
   It's simple: the frill should be transverse, and the middle line of the sleeve should coincide with the shared thread.
