We are considering the simplest option - cutting stretch and then sewing knitted stitch.

We start with making decisions: is a sleeve needed, what kind of collar will be, what will be the length of the dress and the length of the insert.

As for the “American” armhole. Please note whether you will get an “American” armhole depends on the width of your shoulders. On a figure with wide shoulders, the armhole will look “American”.

But, if you have narrow shoulders, you should not try to open them and, perhaps, you should not even sew a sleeveless dress. Otherwise, a figure with narrow shoulders will have visually heavy hips. A sleeveless dress, not to mention an American armhole, is contraindicated for figures with narrow shoulders and wide hips. For you - only sleeves with a fit and with a shoulder pad.

It is worth noting that on 1 drawing shows how to determine the front of the sleeve - the concave part of the collar in front.

You can measure the length of the dress along the back from the middle point of the neck or from the side point of the neck down. And the length of the insert follows from the waist down, that is, we measure the “length of the skirt” and, if necessary, adjust it - lengthen or shorten it as we want.

We perform cutting by spreading the fabric in one layer face up to avoid annoying misunderstandings (picture 2). We lay out the shelf patterns with the inscriptions facing up, since they are unpaired and asymmetrical. The patterns for the back and sleeves need to be laid out twice - with the inscriptions up and the inscriptions down.

It is better to cut the collar after trying on the dress.

If we are going to sew a stretch dress using an overlocker, we don’t need seam allowances. If you have another option, then add 1 cm, except for the armholes, neckline and collar.

After cutting, do not forget to make notches along the waist and apply a half-skid line to the middle of the shelf.

Cutting out the insert is not difficult. If it is a “red” stretch, with the same properties as “black”, then it is advisable to observe the fractional direction.

If your insert is made of some exotic fabric, then it is better to add 1 cm allowances and mark the part with thread.

How to sew

All stitching is performed on an overlock with a knitted seam. It's fast, convenient, and produces strong seams.

1. Process the bottom of the insert.
2. Sew all the reliefs of the shelf, aligning the notches along the waist, and iron the seams.
3. Sew back reliefs and iron.
4. Overcast the middle seam of the back and sew it with a narrow zigzag until the fastener, leaving 10 cm to the sprout or as much as is needed to sew in the zipper. Iron. Sew in a zipper.
5. Sew the shoulder seams (also using an overlocker), placing a narrow strip of fabric (1,5 cm) to stabilize the seam. Iron.
6. Sew sleeve seams.
7. Trying on: we clarify the degree of fit and, if necessary, clarify the line of the armholes and neckline. How to cut an armhole, if necessary
8. After this, the sleeve can be sewn in. If the sleeve is non-stop, connect the highest point of the sleeve with the shoulder point and distribute the sleeve evenly along the armhole.
9. We cut out the collar based on the length of the neck.

10. Process the collar, baste and stitch.

11. We process the armhole. If the dress is sleeveless, we trim the armhole with tape - iron it along a strip 3 cm wide and stitch it to the sleeve, stitching it off.

12. Process the bottom.
