Description of the design of a women's sports raglan jacket with a hood

Patterns of women's sports jacket raglan hoodie photo 3As can be seen in Fig. 1 and in the photo, the style of the jacket is quite intricate.

The raglan sleeve is “arched”, that is, the sleeve is combined with the back yoke and has a middle seam. To make it easier to navigate, “yokes” are labeled on the upper part of the sleeves. The lateral point of the neck is also marked.

Now it’s worth talking about relief lines - vertical shaped lines that separate the back and shelf.

There are two reliefs on the shelf. Please note that the pocket can be processed both in the side seam and in the relief seam between side one and side two. The pocket in the relief between the barrel parts seems more convenient.

But when choosing a seam in which the pocket will be located, keep in mind that in a relief the pocket can visually enlarge the stomach, and in the side seam - the hips.

On the back we have one relief - it separates the flank from the middle part. In addition, the back is also cut in the waist area and its lower middle part has a soft counter fold.

The “Protrusion” detail partially covers the zipper at the top. You can do without it and cut out the shelf and hood according to the half-skid.

Hood - sides and middle part. Nothing complicated. The dart is provided for more convenient correction of the cut length of the hood neck to match the neck of the jacket.

The overlay is a decorative detail. It is provided as an overhead part to make the assembly of the shelf a little easier.

Patterns for making the bottom of the front and back also serve to simplify the sewing task. The idea is to first assemble the back and shelf, and then cut out the figured bottom using the patterns.

What to make a women's sports jacket from

There are no surprises here: footer, fleece, fur-lined footer, thick knitwear, loden, lightweight drape.

Cuff fabric or ready-made cuffs - strip 10–15 cm.

Consumption of “dark” with a width of 150 cm - up to 90 to 130 cm.

Consumption of “light” with a width of 150 cm is from 100 to 130 cm.

The consumption of “dark” with a width of 180 cm is from 80 to 100 cm.

Consumption of “light” with a width of 180 cm is 85 to 110 cm.

For a more accurate calculation of consumption, it is advisable to pre-lay out the patterns of the size you have chosen.

How to cut a raglan jacket with a hood using a ready-made pattern

How to cut a women's raglan jacket with a hood using a ready-made pattern (Fig. 2)As usual, we decide on the sleeve length. We measure the figure and the pattern from the side point of the neck to the bottom - on the figure the measuring tape goes along the shoulder and along the bent elbow, on the pattern along the midline.

If necessary, the sleeve length is adjusted on the pattern (fold the pattern from below).

Of course, if you are planning a cuff, then you also subtract the width of the finished cuff from the length.

Based on the fact that this jacket can be sewn in two ways - on an overlocker with a knitted seam and on a machine with a straight stitch or a narrow zigzag, there may be different seam allowances when cutting.

For an overlocker – 0,5–07 cm, for a machine – 1–1,2 cm.

At the bottom, if the bottom is even, add 2,5–3 cm to the hem. For a curly hem, only 1,5–2 cm will be needed for the hem, but if we adjust it, it is better to add the same 2,5–3 cm.

An approximate layout is shown in 2 drawing. The middle part of the hood is the middle line on the fold. The inside of the hood is “dark”, and the front part is “light”.

After cutting, you should make notches along the waist and half-skid.

As shown in the layout, we are cutting the jacket with a double hood and no lining (the open section of the zipper can be trimmed with braid). If you need a trim, the easiest way is to cut it out using the pattern for the middle part of the shelf.

How to cut a raglan sleeve jacket with a hood using a finished pattern (Fig. 3)Let me remind you that we make notches for the pocket as shown in 3 drawing. We put all 4 cuts along the relief together. The first cut is 5–7 cm down from the waist. We apply burlap to it and make a second notch along the burlap. Please note that notches on the burlap are made with an indentation of 1 cm.

How to sew a jacket with your own hands

Let's start by setting up the overlocker - how to set up overlock

And machine settings - we will need a narrow and long zigzag stitch. The seam should stretch, not tear. We use straight stitching only in those places where the seam will not stretch in the sock. For example, for sewing a hood, processing a pocket and sewing an overlay.

Once you have decided on the method of processing the seams, you can begin assembly. Each seam is ironed - pressed or pressed, depending on the chosen processing method.

  1. Assembling the back: sweep the fold in the lower part of the back and iron; sew the middle seam of the upper middle part; connect the middle parts; sew the middle part and the barrels of the back.
  2. Assembling the shelf: we process the parts of the “protrusion” and grind them to the right shelf; we connect the middle part of the shelf and the first barrel; we process a pocket in relief between the first and second barrels and connect them; adjust the “overlay” and grind the zipper; We sew the “protrusion” part to the left shelf.
  3. Stitch the side seams.
  4. We assemble the sleeves, including the middle “arch” seam.
  5. We assemble the hood: “top” and “lining”, combining them.
  6. We connect the raglan and the jacket. Please note that the center line of the bottom half does NOT line up with the side seam.
  7. We sew a hood.
  8. We adjust the bottom according to the pattern, choosing the appropriate size.
  9. We process the bottom into a hem with an open cut - serged and folded once.
