How to cut a jacket from Elena Zelenskaya's outfit with your own hands

You should start, as usual, by checking the length of the jacket and cape (picture 1).

The length of the cape is very important, because at the suggested length, the cape-back piece does not fit in half the width of the fabric, which makes it inconvenient to cut large sizes.

The layout in this case can have two options - the lobar cape coincides with the midline and the lobar is located at an angle of 45⁰.

In my opinion, it is preferable to cut the back-cape along the oblique (picture 3 и picture 4), as this will protect the product from deformation in the sock.

What else do you need to know about cutting a jacket?

The lobar of the lower collar should run parallel to the flare line, and the lobar of the upper collar should run parallel to the midline.

The hem is cut out after the first fitting, and the collar after the second.

The traditional option for cutting a cape with a share along the middle thread (picture 2) is not difficult.

The fabric is folded across, that is, the fold is perpendicular to the edges, the patterns are laid in the most economical way in compliance with the shared direction.

The layout with the "oblique" cape looks a bit confusing (figures 3 и 4), since one more stage is added to it - cutting the back-cape.

The cape should be cut by spreading the fabric in one layer, or by bending clearly along the oblique thread. To cut the remaining parts, the fabric is folded in half in the usual way - a fold parallel to the combined edges.

Seam allowances and notches, design features

The seam allowances for this cape jacket are common for a jacket and other outerwear.

Add 1-1,2 cm along the middle seam, reliefs, side and shoulder seams.

It is not necessary to add allowances to the armhole. Sprout-neck - no more than 0,3 - 0,5 cm.

On the bottom of the jacket and cape, as well as on the cut of the cape, corresponding to the front roll of the sleeve, add 2,5 - 3 cm.

Along the edge of the board - 0,5 - 0,7 cm, and along the edge of the selection - 0,7 - 1 cm for landing and piping. Such a difference in allowances suggests that you will cut the selection according to the bead detail after the first fitting.

Notches are desirable at the waist - this will facilitate the assembly of the product.

Mandatory notches on the shoulder-edge of the back-cape, since without them the cape cannot be connected to the jacket.

Now with regard to the design of the board. Notches will be needed, both in the corner of the neck, and in the place where it joins with the lapel.

Notches are extremely important, which determine the inflection of the lapel.

Keep the markings of the lapel fold and half-skid until the product is ready.

How to sew a do-it-yourself jacket-cape step by step

Individual tailoring of classic jackets and women's jackets of a jacket type involves a periodic “return” to cutting, which is associated with fittings and refinements that occur during the sewing process.

1. Cut out the details of the "top", except for the selection and collar.
2. Preparation of the first fitting: dubbing, WTO, assembly.
3. First fitting: clarification of volumes, fit, shape and inflection of the lapel.
4. Making changes after fitting.
5. Open the pick.
6. Preparing the second fitting and cutting the lower collar.
7. The second fitting with clarification of the contour of the collar.
8. Making the collar and preparing the third fitting.
9. Stitching the collar, fastening the collar, buttonholes and buttons, finishing ironing.
