6. How to cut dresses with a high waist according to ready-made patterns

Next, we will consider the simplest version of cutting dresses made of knitted stretch fabric.

As you already know, when sewing products from fine knitwear, seam allowances are not required.

The cutting of a high-waisted dress is carried out on the basis that, during the fitting, the line connecting the bodice and the skirt can be changed during the fitting in accordance with the features of the figure.

Therefore, on the patterns, the part that is “common” for the bodice and for the skirt is shaded. In other words, in the fitting, the shaded area of ​​the skirt will overlap the shaded area of ​​the bodice.

What is it for? To be able to fine-tune the bodice according to the figure and the ability to change the position of the line connecting the bodice with the skirt.

For example, for a full woman with large breasts, the line connecting the bodice and skirt can be shifted down.

It is also possible that some ladies will come to the conclusion that the waist should be ... at waist level. According to my patterns, this option is possible.

Of course, it is possible that you will not need such adjustments and you will connect the bodice with the skirt along the line indicated for this in the drawing.

The only allowances can be considered an allowance of 2 - 2,5 cm along the neck of the shelf. Since the neck is a straight line here, we will process it into a hem. And the allowance for the cut of the connection of the back with the neck of the shelf is 2 - 2,5 cm.

When cutting out without seam allowances, we do not forget that a so-called “house” must be made above the darts and folds so that the folds and darts do not pull the dress after assembly. The bodice is left "long" for correction on fitting.

7. How to sew dresses with your own hands for the New Year holiday at home

Before sewing, remember that we sew stretch knitted fabric with a knitted seam, which is not an overcast stitch.

Setting up the overlock stitch before starting to assemble the dress

Remember that each seam must be carefully ironed!

1. We start, as usual, with the assembly of the skirt - we process the pockets (like a regular detachable barrel), folds and side seams. Since stretch knitwear does not require a zipper, we don’t remember about a zipper.
2. We collect the bodice - we process the neck into a hem, we process the tucks, and the rest of the seams. If you are in doubt what kind of sprout you need, then we do not process it with a turning and we fasten the shelves to the neck.
3. We collect the sleeve.
4. The fitting is the most important thing. To try on, we put on a bodice and adjust it according to the figure. We put on a skirt. The overlap areas of the bodice-skirt should match. After that, we look to see if it is necessary to shift the line connecting the bodice with the skirt. When you have decided on the connection line, you can try on the sleeve. For knitwear, the sleeve is non-stop and its fitting is needed only in order to adjust the width and length. And of course, if you have not yet decided on the choice of the sprout option, then fitting is the last chance.
5. After trying on, we connect the bodice with the skirt; we process the sprout with a turning and connect the back with the neck of the shelf; we sew in non-stop sleeves, distributing the eyelet evenly along the armhole, after aligning the highest (middle) point of the eyelet with the shoulder point. When sewing in a sleeve, keep in mind that the concave part of the eyelet should be turned towards the shelf, the convex part - towards the back.
