How to cut a dress with your own hands from a stretch according to a pattern with a boat neckline

Let's start with the most popular question: where to make lightning?

In this dress you will not need a clasp for any layout of the "boat".

"Boat" is a shallow and rather wide neckline (picture 1). You can sew a dress using patterns of the back and shelves with a shallow “boat”, that is, with a shallow neckline. But, if you want to "deepen", then you should not combine two deep cutouts at once - on the back and on the shelf, it is better to choose a pair of patterns with one deep cutout.

As for the sleeves, they are designed for those who do not like to do tacking.

Before proceeding to cutting, let me remind you that we do not add seam allowances and the dress will be sewn with a knitted seam and a narrow zigzag.

Another important question: do I need a middle seam?

Yes, it simplifies the cutting process, makes the back more snug and minimizes the fit for girls who have a large lumbar curve and a very thin waist.

An economical layout for a stretch Tatyanka dress does not look too simple at first glance (drawings 2 и 3). But this is because it is performed in three stages.

We start by cutting out the back and front: we fold the fabric in half face to face along the width of the front and back, laid with a jack; the edges should be parallel to each other.

Having cut out the shelf and back, we look at how it is more economical to place the sleeve. At the same time, it is important that the sleeve blanks turn out to be mirrored.

And the third stage is a Tatyanka skirt.

As shown in figure 2, for cutting a Tatyanka skirt, two strips of fabric are used - one passes through the entire width of the cut, the other is cut out from the rest. It is important that the share direction of both bands is the same.

On the 3 drawing a similar layout is shown for the larger sizes, and a ruffled sleeve is selected.

First, a shelf with a back is cut out, then sleeves and, last of all, a Tatyanka skirt. In this case, you can use a lunge near the double of the sleeve or cut off a strip (two strips) across the entire width of the fabric.

What is a good layout, in which there are two parts for a Tatyanka skirt of different widths (picture 2)?

Firstly, it is economical, and secondly, it is precisely such unequal details of the Tatyanka skirt that will allow you to process comfortable pockets in the seams of the skirt. To do this, the smaller “half” of the skirt should be placed in front, the middle of the panel should coincide with the half-skid, and the assembly should be evenly spaced. This will help move the seams of the skirt forward, they will not line up with the side seams of the bodice, but it will make it easier to enter the pockets.

A patch pocket is also possible, but it is not easy to process it on any knitwear. A pocket in the seam is simpler and more aesthetic.

In the version with soft pleats, the seam should be hidden inside the pleat (picture 4).

How to sew a dress with a boat neck and a Tatyanka stretch skirt

Now that all the secrets of the Tatyanka dress cutting technique have been revealed, you can move on to the secrets of sewing.

We start by stitching the shoulder seams. We grind with a knitted seam, at the same time, put an edge of the same fabric or a special braid under the line so that the seam does not stretch during wear.

After stitching the seams, iron the allowance.

To process the neckline, cut out a transverse strip 4–5 cm wide from the remains and iron it in half lengthwise. It is desirable that the length of the strip be equal to the length of the neck.

After that, a non-stop sleeve is sewn. The sleeve with the assembly is pre-prepared - assembly is performed.

When the sleeves are sewn in, the sleeve-side seams and the middle seam of the bodice are ground and ironed.

How to sew a dress with a pleated skirt according to a pattern with your own hands

After that, we move on to the skirt. We grind the seam or seams and lay the folds.

Folds can be calculated, but it is easier to lay them “in place”, noting the position of the half-skid (middle line of the front of the skirt, bodice or dress). The seams of the skirt can be hidden "inside" the soft folds (picture 4) and in this case it is better if they are shifted to the back, in other words, the matching of the seams of the bodice and the skirt is not necessary.

If you are overcasting pockets, the sewing sequence will be different (picture 5) - first pockets, then seams.

When making pockets, pay attention to the fact that the top edge of the burlap should be sewn to the waist section after connecting the bodice to the skirt.

We start by stitching the burlap to the vertical sections of the front and back panels, weave and iron the resulting seams. Then we grind and overcast the whole burlap with the upper ledge and iron the pockets again. Having finished sewing pockets, we perform assembly or lay warehouses and perform fitting.

After trying on, it remains only to connect the bodice with the skirt and process the bottom of the skirt and sleeves.
