Cutting and sewing a cut-off maxi dress for beginners at home from striped fabric
Sewing dresses from stretch fabrics is not difficult if you have a modern overlocker and an adjustable zigzag machine.
When cutting from stretch, seam allowances can be omitted, with the exception of the waist cut of the bodice, as well as for hemming the bottom and sleeves.
An allowance for the waist cut of the bodice will be needed for trying on.
Cutting is done in two stages: bodice and skirt with sleeves (picture 2). This approach will allow you to use the fabric in the most economical way.
To cut out the back and front of the bodice, fold the fabric in half face to face along the width of the layout. In this case, it is strictly necessary that the strips of fabric coincide and the fold passes in the middle of one of the strips. Lay the shelf on the fold, passing through the middle of the strip, with the upper part of the half-skid.
After that, the back and shelf can be cut out.
To cut the skirt, the fabric is folded across, but the stripes must also match.
PP and ZP are stacked along an oblique thread, the sleeve is divided along, as noted on the pattern. Laid out in advance and the most crucial moment comes.
Cut out PP. They laid the RFP and checked it with the cuts of the PP - the stripes of the skirt should match on both cuts. We checked the layout of the RFP again and only after that they cut it out.
In sewing this dress, as in cutting, there is only one difficulty - the stripes on the seams must match exactly.
We start sewing the dress from the tuck on the shelf - we grind it with a narrow zigzag and carefully iron it. Then, we grind the side and shoulder seams with a knitted seam (not overcast, namely knitted!) On the overlock.

The seams are carefully ironed, it is better to sweep the middle seam - we will adjust the volume of the bodice using it.
We grind the skirt on the overlock, iron the seams.
Fitting. Having put on the bodice on the figure, we gird the customer with a thin belt of linen gum and outline the waist. We specify the depth of the cutout and the contour of the armholes, we tuck in the sleeve and sweep the bodice with the skirt, without letting go of the customer, and try it on again.
If necessary, align the bottom of the skirt.
After trying on, it remains only to turn around the neck or process it with a stitched knitted trim.
See how easy it is to process the neck on a stretch product (Photo 2, picture 3)
The bottom of the stretch dress can be worked into an open hem (overcast and folded once).
If it is not possible to process the bottom with a backstitch, then it can be replaced with a zigzag or other elastic decorative seam.
