How to cut a vest

It is no coincidence that I post a pattern of a men's vest a week before February 23. The vest is a great gift.

Briefs, even sewn on a free pattern, which lies on this site, will not make the proper impression on your chosen one, shorts

(by the way, you can sew on the same pattern of pants) - it's too early to sew.

But a self-made vest will immediately raise your “rating”. But, this is "lyrics", let's move on to practice.

The set of patterns includes a shelf and a back with marking the contours of the hem and facing for the sprout (Fig. 1).

It is understood that the armhole will be edged.

Cutting the vest is very simple, especially for small sizes, when the back, front and hem fit into the same width of the fabric (Fig. 2).

Please note: in this case, the selection is one-piece. On fig. 2 shows the layout for two "book" pockets.

When cutting medium and large sizes, when the front, back and hem do not fit into the same width of the fabric,

the pick-up should not be cut in one piece, dividing it in such a way that the stitching seam does not fall into the neck area or into the loop (Fig. 3).

If you cut for a figure with a belly, choose the size according to the volume of the chest, measured horizontally through the armpits, and lay the missing volume (difference between Cr and St) in the length of the arc of the shelf (Fig. 5).

For cutting the details of patch pockets, I recommend pre-cutting patterns from thin cardboard.

With them it is convenient to perform a preliminary layout for the exact consumption of fabric, and the cutting itself will be much faster.

In addition to patch pockets (external and internal), you can also make welt pockets.

And here I will give a description of cutting and sewing the pockets shown in the photo.

This is one of the easiest ways to process a "book".

Cut out a rectangleElnik cardboard 15x18 plus allowances and round the "lower" corners.

Circle it on the fabric, adding processing allowances: 3 cm - for the "entrance", 1 cm - for stitching.

Circle the cardboard template at the place where the pocket was sewn and measure the length of the sewing line using the template.

Cut a strip 4 cm wide and a length equal to the length of the seam plus 6 cm (double entry allowance).

Sew a rectangular blank with a strip and process the entrance to the pocket seam in the hem with a closed cut (link fig. 2 b).

Then, iron the pocket blank by bending the stitching edge by 1 cm. Place it on the markup and stitch.

The valve for such a pocket is also more convenient to cut according to patterns, but it is advisable to make it 1 cm wider than the pocket entrance.

Sometimes two small pockets are covered with one valve.

Attention! Valve parts are required twice as many as others, since our valves are turned (double).

In addition, one cannot remain silent about the need to use thicker and stronger threads for sewing pockets.

Double stitches and overcasting or edging open cuts.
