What are fittings and why do we need them video master class

what are fittings and why are they needed photo 1Vera Olkhovskaya

During my tailoring practice, I was convinced that the client and the tailor put different meanings into the word “fitting”.

The client often does not understand why this is needed at all and simply makes concessions to the master.

And when trying on a product, first he looks at how much his new image meets his own expectations...

Ladies naturally begin to draw in their bellies, even if they don't have them, and ask themselves, and sometimes the tailor, "Am I too fat?" Then attention will switch to the degree of fit and the length of the product.
The tailor, solving his main task - to please the client, must:

  1. Ask the client or client to stand up straight, in accordance with the characteristics of the posture and not pull in the stomach!
  2. Check product balance. It should not slide along the figure either back or forward.
  3. Refine the configuration of the neck lines and armholes. The latter - in accordance with the required degree of fit. This requires experience or some intuition.
  4. Specify or correct the length of the product.
  5. If there are lapels and a collar, you need to discuss with the client the shape of those.
  6. And lastly, this is the location of overhead parts - pockets, valves, straps. If the pockets are welt, and the model is not a classic English jacket, then their location is also negotiated and outlined.

In general, clothes without trying on for a woman are nonsense. Watching my customers, who at first begged me to sew a dress for them without trying on, citing lack of time, and then spun around the mirror for about forty minutes, choosing a collar and length, I came to the conclusion that try-on methods are not suitable for us women.
After all, fitting is essentially a process of joint creativity between the tailor and the customer, and for the latter it is also the process of "knowing oneself."
And it is precisely in the creative psychology of women that the constant success of fitting methods for individual tailoring lies.
True, one should not discount the fact that most figures are close to conditionally proportional and most women are able to choose a style that masks their shortcomings. Therefore, long live fitting!
The dress presented in the video tutorial on sewing and in the photo was sewn with a fitting on which the neckline and bodice length were adjusted.
