Photo of sewn dresses according to an electronic pattern of a-line dress with one pocketThis is a simple asymmetrical model of a trapezoid silhouette dress with one semi-relief on the shelf. The pocket is in semi-relief.

The drawing shows two lines of the armhole for the shelf - with and without a tuck for the chest.

One sleeve is designed to be sewn into an armhole with a tuck, the other can be sewn in without tucking in and it is designed for an armhole without a tuck.

The side seam also has additional markings of the "balloon" type.

Important NotePlease note that these patterns can be used to cut several different models, in addition to the main declared asymmetric one.

For example, a balloon dress without a pocket - using the right half of the shelf. Or a trapeze dress with two pockets - using the left half of the shelf and the left fragment.

4. How to cut a dress and which sleeve to choose from two

The choice of sleeve is determined by the choice of fabric.

For elastic knitted fabrics, a non-stop sleeve is more suitable and, accordingly, an armhole without a tuck.

For fabrics that do not stretch (tartan, dress wool), an armhole with a tuck and a sleeve that requires a fit is more suitable.

Armholes with a tuck are also recommended for owners of large breasts.

General layout that can be cut according to the pattern in one goCutting is carried out according to the rules of an asymmetric cut - asymmetric parts are cut out in a single copy.

Seam allowances - 1 cm, except for rounds, armholes and necklines - no seam allowances are added to these cuts.

An example layout is shown in 2 drawing.

To simplify the task, we perform cutting in two stages.

First, on the fabric laid out in one layer, we lay out asymmetric (unpaired) details on the wrong side - the Shelf, the right fragment, the Shelf, the left fragment and the Pocket Burlap. All labels are visible. We follow the direction. Cut out with seam allowances.

Then, we cut out paired details - back, sleeves, collars. At the same time, it is better to cut the collar after the shoulder seams are processed and after fitting, if fitting is planned.

Fold the fabric in half. On the 2 drawing a general layout is given that can be cut in one go. Therefore, addition is obtained not quite according to the rules - inside out.

So, we folded the fabric in half along the width of the cut out parts. You can even fold the fabric in half separately for each paired piece. A troublesome but cost-effective approach.

After all the details are cut out, we mark the semi-skid (preferably with a thread so that it is preserved until the product is ready) and the pocket entry line on the left fragment of the shelf.

In addition, you will need notches along the side seams at waist level. To do this, fold all 4 side seams together and make a notch 0,5 - 0,7 cm long at waist level.

You will also need notches that limit the tucks and a notch at the highest point of the sleeve.

Now separately about cutting the collar. It should be cut only after the exact length of the neck of the product that you measure is known.

5. How to sew a do-it-yourself trapeze dress on home sewing machines

Let's start with the question, do you need lightning?

The zipper is useful if you are sewing from inelastic fabric, that is, not from stretch. Or if you do not have the opportunity to perform elastic knitted seams. But even in this case, you can get by with a clasp, an air loop and a button.

Sewing step by step:

  1. We process the middle seam (with or without a fastener), process the tucks and iron.
  2. We process the pocket. We iron.
  3. If the armhole is without a tuck, we process the shoulder seams, iron and sew in the shirt sleeve. Iron the seam again and you can process the side seams.
  4. If the armhole is with a tuck, we grind the shoulder and side seams, and then we tuck in the sleeve. We iron.
  5. Trying on a dress. At the fitting, you can cut the neck and armhole according to your desire and according to the figure.
  6. We cut out the collar along the length of the neck of the product, focusing on the length correction lines. Remember that the length of the collar should be 1 - 1,5 cm less than the length of the neck.
  7. We process the collar.
  8. We sew a collar.
  9. We process the bottom with an open cut - overcast and bend once.
