2.2. Description of the design of the A-line dress with a kangaroo pocket

The laconic style of a loose dress with an A-line silhouette with pockets that look like a pocket of a sweatshirt.

The sleeve is non-stop, i.e. the collar is evenly distributed along the armhole.

This is a good style to sew a combination dress.

3. What to sew a trapeze dress for summer and winter

This style is suitable for any season, so most fabrics of the dress assortment, as well as footer and fleece, can be used for sewing.

The most suitable fabrics for a summer dress of this style can be considered chintz, poplin, thin denim, and linen. Natural linen is especially suitable if you want to keep the product in the boho style.

A boho muslin a-line dress will look good. When choosing muslin for this style, take a two-layer one.

For the winter version, dress wool, gabardine, and tartan are suitable.

The expense for a dress with a long sleeve, depending on the size, will be from 170 to 250 cm. This is with a width of 150 cm.

NoteBefore buying a fabric, it is advisable to perform a preliminary layout of the patterns in order to clarify the consumption.

5. How to cut a trapeze dress with a kangaroo pocket according to the finished pattern

How to cut a simple trapeze dress with a kangaroo pocket according to a finished pattern (Figure 2)Cutting is not difficult, as well as further tailoring, if the couturier clearly understands the sewing technology (picture 2).

One of the simplest processing methods will be considered below, which involves the use of bias trim made from the main fabric.

Watch video tutorialWatch the video on how to make a bias tape of different widths at home

To simplify the processing of pockets, it is worth processing the entire upper cut of the lower part of the shelf with an oblique inlay, so we DO NOT add a processing allowance for it.

5.1. About allowances

DO NOT add along the cuts of the armholes and the collar of the sleeve, neck and sprout, along the burlap, along the lower cut of the bodice and along the upper cut of the lower part of the shelf.

The middle seam, side, shoulder, front-back sections of the sleeve - 1 cm each.

On the bottom - 2,5 - 5 cm. 2,5 cm - for processing with an open cut (overcast and fold once) and up to 5 cm - for processing with a closed cut (double hem).

The neck can be processed in two ways - turning and oblique trim - turning “on the face”.

NoteIf you use facings, then allowances are added only at the junction of the parts of the facing - along the shoulder and middle seams.

5.2. Do you duplicate stitches?

For thin fabrics, dubbing is optional or interlining is used. You can also use a very thin knitted dublerin. This, for example, is for muslin.

After cutting, notches should be made along the waistline, along the midline of the sleeve and along the half-skid.

NoteIn addition, it is imperative to mark along the half-skid (middle line of the shelf) and on the bodice along the overlay line of the lower part of the shelf (all lines are signed on the large drawing).

After that, you can start sewing.

6. How to sew a dress at home step by step for beginners

Let's start with the fact that when sewing this dress, especially from summer fabrics, you can abandon the processing of sections with an overlock in favor of edging with an oblique inlay.
For cuts, you can use a factory-made inlay from the store.

NotePlease note that the sewing sequence may differ between armholes and side seams.

You can sew in the sleeve before processing the shoulder seams, or after.

In any case, the hem is evenly distributed along the armhole, but if the side seam is already finished, it is possible to match the shoulder point and the top of the hem, which will improve the fit.

The sequence of sewing a dress step by step, for beginners:

  1. Kangaroo pocket. Sew the pocket burlap along the pocket entry line to the bottom of the shelf. Trim the top cut. Put on the pocket line marked on the bodice, baste and topstitch, excluding the pocket entry areas. Stitch burlap, overcast or edging (both together). Fasten the pocket on the front side. Iron.
  2. Middle seam: stitch, overcast, iron. If you need a fastener, you can not finish the seam to the top by 10 cm.
  3. Shoulder seams: Stitch, overcast, iron towards the back.
  4. Stitch the sleeve, evenly distributing the eyelet along the armhole. Overcast, iron.
  5. Side seams: stitch, overcast together, iron towards the back.
  6. Neck processing. Let's consider how to process with an oblique inlay "on the face". In this case, the inlay is cut out along the length of the neck with a margin of 5 - 7 cm and is ironed on only one side. Then, the inlay is sutured in the form of an oval - a cut that is ironed away from itself and stretched with an iron. Then everything is simple: the open cut of the inlay is sewn to the neck, while the inlay is applied with the “face” on the wrong side; then, the inlay is turned away on the “face” of the dress, the neckline is swept out with oblique stitches, ironed and detached.
  7. It remains to process the bottom of the sleeve and dress in the way you have chosen.
