Description of the design of thermal underwear patterns for women and men

The design of the women's turtleneck has two options for the front armhole - without a dart and with a bust dart. With a dart - recommended for figures with large breasts and/or for sewing from fabric that does not stretch well. A sleeve with a fit is provided under the armhole with a dart, but you can also use a non-stop sleeve, evenly distributing its piping over the armhole without clearly aligning the highest point of the piping with the shoulder point.

The silhouette of the women's turtleneck is semi-fitting. By choosing the size, you can “adjust” the degree of fit of the product.

The silhouette of a men's turtleneck is straight. The expansion of the side seam is provided for figures with a protruding belly. That is, when choosing a size, we measure the customer along the chest and compare the measurement with the pattern, and then horizontally along the stomach at the most protruding point. Using two measurements, you can choose the size with great accuracy.

The leggings are narrow and by choosing a smaller size you can make them tight or loose if you choose a larger size. Depends on your task.

If you find all the sizes inappropriate, to reduce or increase the size of the leggings, fold along the side line or cut and spread the pattern.

Men's leggings have a “Bow” detail, but if you are sewing leggings from thin and well-stretchable fabrics, such as cooler fabric, then you can omit this detail and sew leggings “according to the female type.”

What to sew thermal underwear

The choice is obvious - thermal canvas.

But cooler fabric (cooler), three-thread footer and fleece are also good solutions when choosing fabric for thermal underwear.

Of course, other types of knitwear are also suitable. For example, thin knitwear that imitates hand knitting, knitwear like “noodles” (elastic band), “angora”, “jersey”, “rabbit”... Some of them are suitable only for women’s turtlenecks, but some will also appeal to men.

More important than the name, perhaps, is the composition: pure synthetics, with the addition of cotton, with the addition of wool. I do not recommend choosing pure cotton or pure wool. However, in almost all fabrics, at least a little bit of synthetics is added to avoid shrinkage. And if the seller says “pure wool” or “pure cotton,” it may not be true. In addition, now most synthetics have become comfortable and lightweight. So, choose “cotton with added” or “wool with added”.

Consumption for women's and men's leggings is approximately 120 cm for any fabric width.

The consumption for a men's turtleneck with a width of 150 cm will be from 130 to 170 cm, depending on the size. And with a width of 180 cm - from 85 cm to 150 cm.

The consumption for a women's turtleneck with a width of 150 will be from 80 cm (back with a seam for small sizes) to 150 (back without a seam for large sizes). And with a width of 180 cm, the consumption will be the same from 80 to 150 cm.

Considering the difference in consumption for small and large sizes, it is advisable to pre-lay out the patterns before purchasing fabric.
