The consumption of the "top" (raincoat fabric) will be from 270 to 330 cm, with a width of 150 cm.

Insulation consumption from 250 to 500 cm - depends on the thickness of the insulation and the design of the couturier. For example, only the “top” will be quilted - we consider the consumption of the “top” fabric. The insulation will take a little less, since the share thread is not important. If both the “top” and the lining are quilted, then the insulation will go twice as much.

Please note that the lining insulation can be cut shorter than the "top" insulation. The best option is to the hip line. The insulation for the sleeve lining is only on top of the arm, that is, the lining without insulation is at hand.

Not too experienced home couturiers are advised to use already quilted fabrics. But such “sandwiches” can also be additionally insulated without using a stitch, but by connecting the “top” and the insulation with a line along the edge of the part.

The consumption of the lining will be 170 - 220 cm.

5. How to cut a coat - a down jacket according to a finished pattern

How to choose a size - measure your favorite quilted jacket or down jacket and compare the measurements with the finished pattern. The thicker the insulation, the larger the size should be chosen.

Before cutting, you should also check the length of the sleeve and the product with the desired ones. If you have little experience, then compare with finished products. For raglan sleeves, we take measurements (from the control product) from the neck to the bottom of the sleeve.

Cutting takes place in three stages:

1. We cut the "top".
2. We cut the lining.
3. We cut the insulation along the details of the "top" and the details of the lining.

If the stitch is complex or dense, then the seam allowances will have to be greatly increased - up to 3 cm, and after stitching, reduce them to the standard 1 - 1,2 cm, along the neckline - 0,5 cm.

For cutting already quilted fabric - standard allowances 1 - 1 cm, neckline 2 cm.

If we quilt, as shown in the photo, we will take allowances of 2 - 2,5 cm for cutting.

Let's say we cut from quilted fabric or do without quilting to connect the insulation and the "top" with a stitch along the edge. The layout will look something like 2 drawing.

You only need to pay attention to a few points.

The most important - the middle part of the shelf is double. This will allow you to make a one-piece selection and reduce the processing time of the sides. In this case, the insulation is attached not only along the cuts of the part, but also along the selection of the line, which should pass from the line of the edge of the bead by 1 cm.

Another double detail is a pocket, at the entrance to the pocket there is a fold of the detail. The insulation for the pocket is single or you can do without insulation at all.

The middle part of the hood from the fabric of the top will need one.

As for the liningpicture 3), cutting it is even easier than cutting the “top”.

The cutting of the insulation, as mentioned above, is carried out according to the details of the "top" and the details of the lining.

The parts are laid out on the insulation, pricked or basted and cut out with an allowance for the insulation up to 1 cm.

6. How to sew a coat with your own hands - a down jacket at home

The sewing sequence is as follows:

1. Details of the cut are pricked or basted on the insulation with large (7 - 8 cm) oblique stitches. Then, they are quilted and cut according to patterns, taking into account allowances of 1 - 1,2 cm, as mentioned above.
2. Then the “top” is assembled - a shelf, a back, a sleeve, a hood.
3. The pockets and side seams of the top are processed. The sleeves are not stitched on.
4. The lining is assembled and the pockets on the lining are processed. On the lining of one sleeve, a fragment of the seam is left unstitched for further processing. A loop is sewn on so that the product can be hung on a hook. The sleeves are not stitched on.
5. The “top” is connected with the lining along the relief of the shelf.
6. The bottom is processed.
7. The bottom of the sleeve is processed - the “top” and the lining are connected.
8. The "top" and the lining of the hood are connected.
9. Sleeves are stitched in and sewn in - “top”, then lining.
10. The hood is stitched in and sewn in, the unstitched fragment in the lining of the sleeve is grinded.
