From what to sew a coat and fabric consumption

Fabric consumption, as well as the level of sewing complexity, depends on the style variant.

For sewing a coat without a pick-up and pockets from double-sided pile fabric, you will need 260 - 320 cm with a width of 140 cm.

For lint-free coats and lint-free pockets, dial 240 - 260 cm with a width of 140 cm.

And on a coat with pockets and a one-piece selection - 380 - 400 cm with a width of 140 cm.

Linings - 180 - 200 cm.

How to cut a coat with pockets with your own hands

We cut a coat without pick-ups and pockets

Let's start with the simplest cutting option - without pockets and ribs (drawings 2 и 3), recommended for beginners.

Seam allowances: shoulder-sleeve, sleeve-side and middle seam of the back 1 cm each, add along the bottom only if there is a hem, from 3 to 3,5 cm, along the bottom of the sleeve 2,5 - 3 cm. On the neck and the edge of the side does not need allowances.

The lobar thread of the shelf is parallel to the edge of the bead, and the lobar back is parallel to the middle line of the back, that is, the middle seam should be slightly beveled - at the bottom it is indented from the lobar about 3 cm.

When cutting from fabrics with pile or faux fur, the layout will look something like 2 drawing - the fabric is not folded in half, the parts are cut out one at a time so that the pile on all of them is located in the same direction.

From lint-free fabrics, cutting is even easier (picture 3).

After cutting, the pocket entry lines are marked on all parts with a lining seam using a white thread.

How to cut a coat with picks.

We start with the manufacture of a selection pattern, arbitrarily cutting a solid shelf, stepping back from the neck 4 - 5 cm (picture 4).
The cut line should be slightly curved.

After cutting the shelves, we get the patterns of the selection and lining.

The width of the facing of the sprout (neck of the back) should be exactly the same as the width of the selection - 4 - 5 cm. Having cut the pattern of the back, we get the facing for the sprout and the back lining.

Of course, all these patterns are also without seam allowances and when cutting, they will require the same allowances as the back shelf.

But, with all the apparent simplicity, novice couturiers should not rush to sew a coat with a lining, since connecting the lining with the “top” is not an easy task.

Let's return to cutting with a selection (picture 5). We combine the finished pattern of the selection with the shelf end-to-end, aligning the notches (marks) at the waist.

When placing the facing detail on the fabric, lay it so that the shoulder and middle cut do not coincide with the share, that is, they are “oblique”.

After cutting, the pocket entry lines are marked on all parts with a lining seam using a white thread.

We cut this coat with pockets and a selection.

Experienced professional tailors will probably prefer a combined pick, one integrated with the bottom of the shelf and separate from the top of the shelf (picture 6).

But this option is quite difficult to process.

It is much easier to cut out a regular pick to sew it to the shelf after processing the pocket (picture 7).

Whichever cutting option you choose, you will have to add allowances for the shoulder and the bottom of the edge.

Cutting the lining, as mentioned above, is very simple (picture 8) - the fabric is doubled, the layout is "jack".

But pay attention to the seam allowances: a double allowance, that is, 2 cm, is added along the cuts of the stitching of the edge-turning.

As for dubbing, it is enough to duplicate only the facing and selection without seam allowances (figures 5, 6 и 7).

This is done very simply: dubbing is cut out strictly according to patterns without allowances. After dubbing is superimposed on the fabric and glued, the hem and facing are cut out with the allowances you need.

How to sew a coat their own hands

One of the main difficulties is the processing of the side-sleeve seam at the bend, so its ironing should be given special attention.

Step by step instructions how to sew:

1. we start with the processing of pockets;
2. we process the middle seam of the shelf (processing = sewing + ironing); WTO backs and shelves;
3. processing of side and shoulder seams; pick-up processing;
4. processing of the sides-neck; lining processing;
5. sweeping the bottom of the product and the bottom of the sleeves;
6. connection of the "top" with the "lining";
7. processing of the bottom of the product and lining; finishing ironing.

At the end of the description, let us dwell in more detail on the processing of pockets (drawings 9 и 10):

1. First, we iron the lower part of the shelf, bending the burlap to the wrong side strictly along the line of the entrance to the pocket (picture 9). We do this on two mirror parts, before moving on to the next operation.
2. Then, we lay the finishing line at a distance of 0,5 - 1 cm from the line of entry into the pocket along the "face" of the lower parts of the shelves.
   At the same time, it is very important that the distance between the finishing line and the cut of the burlap is at least 2 cm.
3. Next, we impose the upper part of the shelf on the lower one, aligning and chipping the segments of the entry line adjacent to the edge of the side and to the side seam (picture 10).
4. We sweep the "upper" (it is smaller) and "lower" (it is larger) burlap along the vertical sections of the sections.
5. We check the correctness of the sweeping and repeat this operation with another shelf.
6. The remaining section of the burlap is swept in a "cunning" way: the "lower" (larger) is laid in a fold or in two folds in such a way that a beautiful protrusion of the pocket is obtained. If necessary, the "lower" burlap can be trimmed. After basting both pockets, the correctness of the basting is checked on a mannequin. Next, the burlap is ground down, the sections of the stitching are processed - overcast or edged.
7. The processing of pockets is completed with bartacks - lines that fasten the pocket on the sides.
