Sewing clothes at home is a rather difficult task, and not only because the home couturier does not have enough space to work.

The main reason is outdated technology and the lack of accessories for sewing machines that facilitate and speed up the sewing process.

One of these accessories for sewing machines is a device for processing the bottom into a hem with a closed cut.

It should be noted that the use of this device depends on the width of the head.

So devices with the narrowest head, resembling a cone, are used to process the edge of handkerchiefs and edge seams in ladies' products made of very thin fabrics.

Such devices serve as an excellent alternative to the time-consuming "Moscow seam" and can also be used for piping.

Wider heads (photo 1) are suitable for sewing bed linen, hemming the bottom of curtains, hemming the bottom of men's shirts and denim trousers.

There are also devices that give a hem width of 2 cm, 2,5 cm, 3 cm, 3,5 cm and even 4 cm.

They are used to process the bottom of robes and straight silhouette dresses made of cotton fabrics in mass production of clothing.

For household sewing machines, there are similar devices for processing the bottom, which are popularly called the "snail".

But back to the device for processing the bottom, shown in the photo. Its application is very simple.

1. The fixture is attached with a bolt so that its head is located in front of the foot of the sewing machine (photo 2).
2. The section being processed is wound into the head, forming a double hem of the fabric, while the edge from which the line begins is wound under the foot of the machine. In a word, it works in the same way as a device for household sewing machines.
